#InTheNews | Fairness on Your Plate: How Diverse Food Systems Support Farmers and Fight Market Fluctuations. «It’s well documented that farmers and producers rarely receive fair prices when they sell to large retailers such as supermarkets. Therefore, by building diverse supply chains and buying directly from producers, local food systems can be resilient to global market price fluctuations and weather events in other regions of the world.» #EmbraceDiversity #BalancedDiet #SustainableAgriculture #HealthyEcosystems #NurtureBiodiversity #AgroecologyMatters #FoodForThought #InclusiveNutrition #SeasonalEating #CommunityWellbeing via Innovation News Network https://lnkd.in/dVEq53jb

𝗔 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱: Assessing the Impact of Food Price Inflation on Indoor Veggie Growers 🥦📈 Most of us don’t need to be told that food price inflation persists. 92% of consumers say that “food prices have been too high for too long”. Naturally, as a service provider to the #CEA industry, the Contain Inc. team’s thoughts turned to the impact on indoor growers. We took a deeper dive into the stats. We have many more thoughts on the topic, but started by looking at trends in the channels that indoor veggie growers mostly serve. As food prices continue to soar, the effects ripple throughout the indoor agriculture sector. How are indoor veggie growers navigating the challenges posed by #inflation? 🔗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲:https://lnkd.in/ejStCWpa #inflation #indoorfarming #markettrends #agtech #food #price

Spot on analysis re the FAO roadmap and the lack of mentioning the detrimental impact of intensive livestock on climate, biodiversity and food security. We are facing the huge consequences on biodiversity of these intensive livestock practices here in The Netherlands. And scientific reports are already piling up for decades concluding that our current intensive livestock system here is broken and a dead end street for both nature and farmers. So, I would like to ask FAO to come with a new green roadmap that is serving people, climate and biodiversity instead of serving the interests of big ag industries.
"Instead of trying to appease the livestock industry, the FAO should redouble its ambition and turn its new 1.5C Roadmap into a genuine plan to get us off the high pollution, high #fossilfuel, high #hunger track our #foodsystem is on — in consultation with those most affected by today’s unjust and unsustainable food systems." – Our letter in the Financial Times

The FAO roadmap has good proposals like food taxes on food we over consume (eg meat) and food subsidies for food we underconsume ( eg vegetables and fruit) . But the roadmap is also heavily criticised for supporting intensification of industrial livestock .

🥩 The Meat, Poultry, and Seafood (MPS) market is one of the key drivers of the refrigerated trucking industry, given its reliance on maintaining specific temperature conditions for quality and safety during transportation. According to recent reports, the market size increased from $1527.25 billion in 2023 to $1623.6 billion in 2024, marking a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.3%. This growth is driven by factors such as rising disposable incomes, the growing popularity of seafood products, and the expansion of emerging markets. Looking ahead, the market is expected to continue its upward trajectory, reaching $2037.24 billion by 2028, with a CAGR of 5.8%. This growth will be supported by increasing global awareness of health benefits, a rising global population, and an enhanced demand for quality and sustainable products. The growing demand for protein-rich foods is a significant driver, as these foods are essential for balanced nutrition and are highly valued across various diets. ❄️ Find more about refrigerated trucking and Reefer Van Network's extensive fleet of small refrigerated trucks across the U.S. at www.reefervannetwork.com. Day 10 of #ValueFoodCampaign Farmers are the most vulnerable to food waste and loss. Their human and financial resources are wasted. Farmers are overjoyed seeing their beautiful produce or harvest after months of nurturing; they are eager to have you purchase it and provide feedback on the produce, such as taste, texture, and appearance, among others. Appreciate a farmer by taking action against food waste. #shareyourthoughtsonFLW #FoodArmy #zerofoodwaste #Valuefoodcampaign

It’s staggering how narrow our food choices have become over the years. Even as we explore solutions to Food and Nutrition Security, it’s important to balance it out with nature and our biodiversity. #foodsystems #foodsystemstransformation #lantei www.lanteiconsulting.com
Our food over the years has become less diverse. Imagine this, 75% of our foods now come from only 12 plants (Rice, Maize & Wheat being the dominant). Even more reasons to re-integrate traditional plants to our diets and broaden our food diversity. Why do we need to change our food system?
