The #AirForce had a large part in shaping who I am as a #leader. #IntegrityFirst is a core value I’ve carried with me in both my military and civilian careers. From the #141stAirRefuelingWing: “A person of integrity possesses moral courage and does what is right even if the personal cost is high. A person of integrity practices justice. Those who do similar things must get similar rewards or similar punishments.” Integrity means doing what’s right ESPECIALLY when it’s the scariest, hardest, riskiest thing to do. Integrity is not allowing yourself to be a passive bystander when you see things going wrong — doing this makes you liable for poor outcomes. The times when it’s most difficult to have integrity are the times when having integrity is most urgent, important, and non-negotiable. Smoke and mirrors aren’t for me; being able to look at myself in the mirror is. Full link here: https://lnkd.in/e2uPKEDP.

The Tuskegee Airmen were an historic, all-Black combat aviation unit that flew more than 15,000 sorties over North Africa and Europe during World War II. The legendary fighter pilots — known as the “Red Tails” — earned the respect and trust of the bomber crews they routinely escorted across enemy skies. Before the Tuskegee Airmen, no African American had ever been a United States military pilot. African Americans served bravely and with distinction in every theater of World War II, while simultaneously struggling for their own civil rights. Although the United States Armed Forces were officially segregated until 1948, WWII laid the foundation for post-war integration of the military. In 1941 fewer than 4,000 African Americans were serving in the military and only twelve African Americans had become officers. By 1945, more than 1.2 million African Americans would be serving in uniform on the Home Front, in Europe, and the Pacific. The Tuskegee Airmen achieved a number of successes during World War II. In all, the Tuskegee Airmen earned eight Purple Hearts, fourteen Bronze Stars, three Distinguished Unit Citations, and 96 Distinguished Flying Crosses!

What a powerful opportunity to continue the distinguished legacy of the WWII Tuskegee airmen, the Red Tails of the 15th Air Force, with flight training for today's BIPOC youth where those WWII pilots learned to fly. Black pilots make up less than three percent of commercial aviators. Leadership In Flight Training Academy (LIFT), like the Red Tails, is boldly advancing diversity. Bet this would make a good podcast episode, Fran!

THE ESSENTIAL AMERICAN CITIZEN: A Reflection on Citizen Responsibilities in a Republic WHO HOLDS THE POWER TO DECLARE WAR? In 1787, Founder Benjamin Franklin's proclamation at the Constitutional Convention was a defining moment in American history, solidifying the nation as a republic where the power ultimately rests with the people through their elected representatives. Franklin's caution about the repercussions of neglecting essential citizen duties is a stark reminder of the importance of citizens fulfilling their obligations, particularly in crucial decisions regarding war and peace. However, in the present day, the American public has largely relinquished its role in determining matters of war, leaving such decisions to a select few while remaining detached from the realities of conflict. Despite significant human and economic costs, citizens often lack awareness of the underlying reasons for ongoing wars and the national security interests at stake. This disconnect is further exacerbated by a lack of public discourse and debate on military engagements, including the recent Ukraine Proxy War with Russia, despite widespread disapproval from the populace. The staggering toll of wars since 9/11, as estimated by Brown University's Watson Institute, underscores the urgent need for citizen engagement in matters of national defense. With millions of lives lost, trillions of dollars spent, and enduring repercussions both domestically and internationally, the consequences of unchecked militarism are severe. The shift towards a professionalized military and reliance on contractors raises concerns about the erosion of democratic values and the sustainability of perpetual warfare. To reverse this trend and uphold the principles of self-governance enshrined in the Constitution, Americans must reclaim their agency in decisions of war and peace. This necessitates educating themselves on the genuine national security interests at stake, advocating for transparency and accountability in military actions, and actively engaging with elected representatives to ensure that war decisions align with the people's will. By demanding a return to the constitutional requirement of a formal declaration of war or withholding financial support for unauthorized military engagements, citizens can exert their influence and safeguard the republic from the perils of unchecked militarism. The choice rests with the American Citizenry: to restore the republic's foundations and preserve the liberties it guarantees or to continue toward tyranny and subjugation. By embracing their civic responsibilities and actively participating in decisions of war and peace, citizens can uphold the democratic ideals upon which the nation was founded and ensure a future guided by the principles of self-rule and collective well-being.

Celebrating the Tuskegee Airmen: Sky-High Valor and Virtue In today's tribute, VetsWhoCode honors the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, whose unparalleled skill and bravery forever changed the skies of World War II and the course of American military history. 🇺🇸✈️ The Tuskegee Airmen were part of an experimental program at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, where African American servicemen were trained as pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance, and support staff. This groundbreaking initiative shattered pervasive stereotypes, proving that skill and valor know no color. Throughout the war, the Tuskegee Airmen, including fighter squadrons like the 332nd Fighter Group, escorted bombers in Europe with distinction. Their exceptional performance earned them an impressive combat record. They flew thousands of sorties, destroyed hundreds of enemy aircraft, and won numerous awards for valor and performance, including Distinguished Flying Crosses. Beyond their battlefield heroics, the Tuskegee Airmen fought a double victory campaign—against Axis powers abroad and against racial discrimination at home. Their success was a critical factor in the eventual integration of the U.S. Armed Forces. The legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen transcends their aerial victories. It's a story of determination, resilience, and the power of breaking barriers. As we honor their memory, let's draw inspiration from their courage and commitment to excellence, which paved the way for future generations to soar without limits. Join us in saluting the Tuskegee Airmen, true heroes whose legacy lifts us all higher. Their story is not just Black history but American history, a testament to the enduring spirit of progress and equality. https://buff.ly/49uVSPJ #VetsWhoCode #BlackHistory #TuskegeeAirmen #AerialValor #BreakingBarriers

SACRIFICE, is it worth it? 🔥There is a time in everyone’s life where you have a decision to make. Do I effect a monumental institutionalized change that will cause sacrifices for myself and the team though the greater good is worth it? Or do I take the course of least resistance? 🔥You sacrifice for the greater good when you know the outcome is worth the sacrifice. Below is the Sheppard Chaplain Corps team being coined for excellence by Maj Gen Edmondson, 2nd AF Commander for the development and execution of the revised Airmanship 200 curriculum. This initiative will soon impact not just all of Sheppard Air Force Base, it will effect 93.1% of all enlisted entering the Air Force. 🔥To develop the Airman we need, we took a holistic approach to build a Better Airman, a more Resilient Airman. An Airman Core Resiliency-based training with a focus on Airman Comprehensive Fitness. 👊Today’s Airmen need more sacrifices from us leaders to get them were they need to be, so they are ready for Gobal Power Competition. If they are asked, if needed, to sacrifice for our country, then we will do the same. Aim High - and we did. #DevelopTheAirmenWeNeed #TakingCareOfAirmen #Sacrifices

This was my absolute favorite panel of the entire event. Seeing two of my former wing commanders on stage, speaking so resolutely toward the needs of our nation, toward a nation that my own children will be proud to grow up in, brought hope and joy to my heart. I also deeply resonated with General Mike Minihan's remarks: "If we don't get connectivity correct, then we are condemned to operate that airplane in the same way our grandfathers did, in the 50s, 60s, and 70s." --and-- "Amateurs study tactics. Professionals study logistics. Victors study maneuver!" --and-- "The readiness that underpins deterrence is the same readiness that underpins decisive victory." --and-- "Airmen fill the gap between what they have and what they need. They do that with tenacity...they do that with courage...they do that with professionalism...they do that with passion!" Such a feast of motivation and truth. I also love watching Airmen close that gap, and I'm grateful to still be in a position to help and contribute to their efforts. I love my chosen career of innovation. The path between idea and innovation is one of maneuver, with innovators creating the conditions for great ideas to become reality, in advance of their time of need. Because...innovation IS readiness and innovation underpins decisive victory. #victorsstudymaneuver Productable
What an amazing group of leaders: – Gen. James B. Hecker, Commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa – Gen. Mike Minihan, Commander, Air Mobility Command – Gen. Mark D. Kelly, Commander, Air Combat Command – Lt. Gen. Kevin B. Schneider, Director of Staff – Moderator: Gen. Herbert J. “Hawk” Carlisle, USAF (Ret.), Former Commander, Air Combat Command My favorite quote from this panel: “Whether you fly, fix, or support, all Airmen and Guardians are needed to maintain our competitive advantage. Your value isn’t based on your proximity to the cockpit.” - Gen Mike Minihan #DAFGPC #afacolorado

America’s ‘Air Wing Of The Future’ Takes Shape In The Pacific Making its Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) debut, the USS Carl Vinson's CVW-2 Advanced Air Wing is bringing unmatched capabilities to the front lines of U.S. Naval Aviation in a way not seen since the Cold War. The U.S. Navy is pushing hard to deliver Advanced Air Wing capabilities to the entire fleet, and the USS Carl Vinson is the carrier to set an example for years to come as dozens of new capabilities are added. Between non-kinetic capabilities in the F-35’s Tech Refresh 3 (TR-3) and EA-18G AN/ALQ-249 NGJ-MB, and kinetic capabilities like the AGM-88G AARGM-ER and AIM-174B ALC, the Carl Vinson is pushing the envelope in advanced capabilities that are being fielded in the Pacific, completing another keystone of the United States in its pivot to the Indo-Pacific. “Our carrier air wing and carrier strike group is a constantly evolving capability. We are bringing the air wing of the future this time to RIMPAC. That allows us to focus on those new capabilities and integrating them with our allies and partners. It allows us to go out and test interoperability. operate together, and see how all those capabilities fit into that overall mix.” Rear Admiral Micheal S. Wosje, Commander, Carrier Strike Group ONE.
