Last plug for my session at the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) conference next week (Friday, 9:30AM). We will be playing EDC trivia and here is your chance to prepare 🙋♀️ How many EDCs are in Texas? True/False: Most EDCs are in metropolitan areas. Which metro area has the greatest number of EDCs? True/False: Most TX cities have an EDC. True/False: Most TX counties have at least one EDC city. True/False: Most TX residents live in EDC cities. What % of EDCs report job creation/retention as an objective? We will also discuss how EDC assets (e.g., land) and objectives have changed over time, how perceptions of EDC spending on incentives compare to how much EDCs are actually spending (in addition to what else they are funding), and what EDCs collectively have on hand to invest in future economic development projects (spoiler: it ends with a 'b'). Finally, we'll give out a few awards for 2023 performance to fuel bragging rights among attendees, not that Texans enjoy that sort of thing. Hope to see you there.
