SNOMED International is excited to announce the winners of the Entity Linking Challenge at the April 2024 Business Meetings! We thank everyone who participated and extend our congratulations to the three winning teams, who will each take a share of the $25,000 prize. The goal of the challenge was to train #machinelearning models to link clinical notes with specific topics based on the largest publicly available dataset of labeled clinical notes that had been de-identified and annotated with #SNOMEDCT concepts.  It was fantastic to see the competition attracted more than 550 entrants, especially considering some may not have heard of #snomedct previously. The artifacts produced from the process, such as annotation guidelines and lessons learned, will be shared with SNOMED International Members and the wider community. The winning solutions will also be published and open source so they will be freely available. We also thank our partners in this initiative (DrivenData, Veratai and PhysioNet) for their support. This was a great project to be able to contribute to. Not only has it resulted in some really smart and novel approaches to clinical entity linking, but in the release of a large corpus of annotated data which is now available to researchers everywhere via physionet.org. ML practitioners will be interested to note that the top three entries spanned decoder-based, encoder-based and traditional NLP approaches - all of which were competitive.

This is a modern highly intelligent way of thinking liquid biopsy presequencing and interpretation!
