In my view we simply can NOT allow companies like Tincture London to continue making false claims like the one that dropped in my inbox today. In my view this is shocking #Greenwashing at its worst so I felt the need to call it out. Here’s the claim… XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX "It’s The Great British Beach Clean Week. Whereas litter and plastic pollution is visible and is eventually washed up on our beaches, it is hard to imagine the huge scale of toxic chemical pollution caused by industry and home waste So how are we different? At TINCTURE we make sure our products are clean and safe for the environment in particular our water systems and oceans. To help you make the switch to ocean safe cleaning, we are gifting you 50% off our Bathroom Cleaner, trusted and loved by the Clipper Ocean Race" XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX This all sounds lovely - BUT the bottle is 100% VIRGIN plastic, which they infused with silver, which but renders it 100% non-recyclable. This will end up in landfill or, even worse in the Ocean, where it will be gradually broken down to micro-plastic level and destroy the marine eco-system. That’s far from being Ocean safe, or friendly. This kind of BS is so frustrating - Tincture actively acknowledge plastic pollution is a horrendous issue but claim that using their products will somehow "save the ocean" while contributing to the problem by using completely toxic packaging. They made up their own “#OceanSafe” logo which they stuck on the advert and on their website to give it a sense of reassurance – In fairness, I am sure the product is marine safe, but the packaging is definitely not. Also, while the product was on the Clipper yachts, I am not sure if Clipper Ventures // Clipper Round the World Yacht Race endorses them – if they do, they are endorsing a company that willingly contributes to the use of single use plastics that pollute our waterways and marine ecosystems, but markets themselves as caring for the Ocean - isn't this just blatant #Greenwashing ? Of course, they claim you can reuse the bottle, but this is just pushing their toxic packaging problem on the consumer – they KNOW that almost nobody will use the #refill and, if you do sign up to their refill service, they send you the refill in a GLASS bottle (looks lovely though!) in a highly glossy box. More waste. More #pollution. To all my friends in the marine conservation sector, shouldn’t we have stricter controls to stop companies like Tincture London making false claims of their Ocean credentials, or am I being too harsh? https://lnkd.in/e8qWkKQs

Plastic pollution is a global crisis, and right now world leaders have a rare opportunity to solve it. 🌍🛑 The UN Plastics Treaty #INC4 negotiations are a unique chance for us to create a future free from plastic pollution and its toxic health impacts. 🌱💚 The #PlasticsTreaty is not just about plastic pollution found in the ocean or nature. It needs to address the full life cycle of plastics, including extraction and production, and ban toxic chemicals so that it also protects our health and addresses social injustices worldwide. A majority of countries in the UN process have been working diligently and in good faith for a strong UN Plastics Treaty that would tackle plastic pollution throughout its toxic existence. 🚨But right now, the Treaty is at risk because of a handful of countries that put profit over people and are trying to block real progress. 🚫 We must make sure world leaders do not allow the current “business as usual” scenario of ever-expanding petrochemical and plastic production to lead us to a dystopian world like the ones @therealmargaretatwood often writes about. 🫱🏼🫲🏿 Together we have the power to build a more just, equitable world free from plastic pollution if governments can negotiate a UN Plastics Treaty that limits plastic production, supports impacted communities, and provides real solutions such as reuse systems. 💥 But we need support to stop industrial lobbyists and ill-intentioned corporations from influencing these crucial negotiations. The strength of the Treaty is at stake. 👇✅Please join us and take action now by signing our 🇺🇸US and 🌍 Global petitions here: US: https://lnkd.in/e85Tqavz Global: https://lnkd.in/dmNNRQPB. 🎥 Video: Poem by Margaret Atwood, narrated by Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue / Sylvia Earle Alliance #ToxicPlastics #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic #PlasticsTreaty #INC4 #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #Plastic #PlasticPollution #MargaretAtwood Plastic Pollution Coalition - Break Free From Plastic - Jen Fela - Antoinette Vermilye (she/her) - Dianna Cohen - Rob "Waldo" Martin - John Vermilye It sprouts everywhere, this foliage. Up in the trees, like mistletoe, or caught in the marshes or blooming in the ponds like waterlilies, gaudy and frilly, rippling as if alive or washing onto the beaches, neo-seaweed of torn bags, cast wrappers, tangled rope shredded by tides and rocks. But unlike true foliage it’s rootless and gives nothing back, not even one empty calorie. Who plants it, this useless crop? Who harvests it? Who can say Stop? https://lnkd.in/exb-JpmF

Why is expanded cork a sustainable material? Expanded cork is, in essence, a derivative of the traditional cork industry. It originates from cork bark that doesn't meet the quality standards for crafting natural wine corks. Derived from the bark of the cork tree's upper branches, typically too thin or inconsistent for conventional cork products, it undergoes a transformation process. Firstly, the bark is processed into cork granules, then subjected to steam heating. This procedure induces expansion and activates suberin, the resin present in cork, which naturally binds the granules into sizable blocks. Remarkably, no additional binding material is required in this process. An apt analogy would be likening expanded cork to popcorn in relation to dry corn. Consequently, expanded cork boasts a lighter weight and demands less material compared to standard cork. #biophilicdesign #sustainability #ecodesign #cork

Outstanding Hookah, BBQ & Wood Charcoal OEM Manufacture Indonesia We export to Europe, Brazil, USA & Middle East. Est.
Charcoal briquettes have a fascinating history tied to industrial innovation and resource efficiency. The concept of charcoal briquettes was popularized in the early 20th century, although the practice of making compressed fuel from carbonized wood is much older. Origins and Development: Charcoal has been used for thousands of years, dating back to ancient civilizations for metalworking and heating. However, the modern charcoal briquette, a more refined and standardized form of fuel, is often credited to Henry Ford and his associate Thomas Edison in the early 1900s. Ford was looking for ways to utilize the wood scraps generated from his automobile manufacturing operations, and this idea was part of his overall approach to waste reduction and efficiency. Life is a lot about death. How we die when we die, and how we are remembered are very important questions that confront us we approach the ‘golden years’. For burials, the process is expensive, and is not so environmentally friendly. According to Jennifer DeBruyen, an associate professor at Tennessee, “The problem with traditional burials is that they're completely anaerobic. The remains are buried deep and sealed in a coffin. There's a lot of incomplete degradation.” Now, Italian designers, Raoul Bretzel and Anna Citelli have created the Capsula Mundi - a biodegradable egg-shaped casket, which when buried, will nurture a seed to grow into a tree. The casket can accommodate either bodies or ashes, and would break down faster for an environmentally friendly burial. https://buff.ly/4bV4MZ0 Customers get to choose the type of tree depending on local conditions. A GPS-tracked, lively green tree would replace a cold tombstone. So how about becoming a tree in your after-life? The capsule is still in development. Only the ashes version is available to early adopters, though changing the mindset of people will be a stumbling block. Remember to watch the splendid video! #death #burial #ecosystem
