In honor of our 10th year as a brand, we’d like to spotlight some of our products along the way. The Super Couple - Ultra Luxe Face Oil was one of the first launches for our brand. It combines the super antioxidant Natural Astaxanthin with nutrient-dense Chia Seed oil. We were one of the first brands to incorporate Astaxanthin in skincare - although it is an ingredient that had been renown for years in the supplement world as one of nature’s strongest antioxidants (65X stronger than Vitamin C in combating free radicals). In 2024 the skincare industry will be turning the radar on MPI – Minimally Processed Ingredients Just as we are seeing an increased awareness of Ultra Processed Food, consumers will question how the natural ingredients in their skincare have been treated during production. Minimally Processed Ingredients are natural extracts which have been used for their skincare effectiveness with the minimal interference possible. Mark Walton, Co-Founder, Voya Skincare explains, ‘Seaweed is at the heart of all VOYA product. We ensure it is sustainably hand harvested from the West Coast of Ireland but we are also mindful of how we obtain the seaweed extract for our products. We use a combination of co-processing and cell explosion, which is essentially a large amount of pressure to explode the cells. This releases an extract or compound that is then refined, which can be used in our formulations. A key point here, is that through the entire process we do as little processing as possible to ensure that you don’t affect the efficacy of the extract.’

Many clients want safety data for ingredients that are due to be submitted for regulatory approval. This includes natural and synthetic ingredients, in both liquid or solid forms. The ingredients are used in wide range of cosmetic and personal care formulations such as moisturisers, bath bombs or shower gels as well as in other industry sectors such as household cleaning products. Increasingly, larger brands are interested in testing the safety and efficacy of finished products in response to consumer demand for more transparent marketing claims. The data generated from our tests can help brands move beyond ‘not tested on animals’ claims for skincare, moisturisers and shampoos amongst others, to a positive and progressive statement about how products ARE tested. The recent initiative - #LabelPadhegaIndia focuses on reading food labels correctly because they are a direct indicator of a brand's quality and the importance they assign to clean and high quality ingredients. While this initiative led by Revant Himatsingka aka Food Pharmer lays emphasis on food and is an important one, we are here to expand our area of focus to Skincare Labels and contribute further to this initiative. We can keep in mind, the below points while reading skincare product labels: Order of ingredients: Ingredients in a skincare product, as per regulations, are to be listed in descending order which means, the ingredients with the largest percentage is presented first. However, certain actives may appear lower on the list as they are known to deliver results in smaller quantities Familiarity with Ingredients: Educating one of lesser known ingredients and its permissible doses is essential; learning about their impact and the different terms for the same ingredient can help us understand the product better. Additionally, brands ought to clarify all concerns regarding ingredients when required. GMP certified: This certification advocates clean manufacturing practices which stresses on accepted and safe practices throughout production and manufacturing. Non- Comedogenic: This is an indicator of a product that does not encourage clogging of pores. This is a critical factor especially for consumers that are prone to acne owing to clogged pores. 100% vegetarian: No animal-based ingredients are part of the product contents. As consumers steer towards conscious choices, this is now an essential indicator of what the brand represents and its principles. However, we must bear in mind that healthy brand perceptions, product popularity are not equated to effectiveness. Skin textures are distinctive, each one exhibits a unique personality that comes with its strengths and imperfections.
