During a visit to Kuching for the upcoming R.I.S.E. training, Izlyn Ramli, CEO of Maybank Foundation, made a stop to Florence Remi's freshmart shop, where the pair exhange smiles and pleasantries. Florence, who is a R.I.S.E. graduate, did not let her walking impairment stop her from realising her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. The economic empowerment programme allowed Florence to hone her entrepreneurial knowledge such as people management, sales skills and marketing strategies. The single mother worked hard to improve her business, so much so, that today, she is able to make a living of a steady income. In 2019, Florence's successful entrepreneurial journey earned her a prestigious award, 'Anugerah Platinum UMK Contoh', proving that with determination, an individual can overcome any obstacles. #MaybankFoundation #EmpowerwithRISE

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ghanaian businesses perceive their industry peers as competitors. This has an adverse effect on emerging entrepreneurs, who also view fellow entrepreneurs in the same field as competition that needs to be overtaken. Consequently, there is a greater emphasis on competition rather than collaboration. To truly succeed, create the right impact, and ensure sustainability, we need to build together instead of against one another. While it's not easy, I am hopeful that, little by little, we will all come to this realization. Thanks to UNLEASH over the past few years, I have learned and acquired enough information on how to build my business to be more sustainable and impactful. I've also identified numerous ways of acquiring the needed resources to grow my business. The knowledge gained through my involvement with UNLEASH has been so valuable that I can't quantify it in monetary terms. By: Emmanuel Preko Boamah (CEO, Gift-Tech Solutions)

🌟French 🇫🇷 Culture Shock Alert!🌟 During my time in China, I embraced an age-old wisdom: "Failure is the mother of success." Switching between entrepreneurial ventures and traditional employee roles felt almost seamless, without the weight of societal judgment. But it wasn't until my journey in France that I truly witnessed what sheer determination looks like against impenetrable barriers. While managing some commercial property in a quaint French town, my broker introduced me to the owner of my favorite boulangerie. The story unraveled: A young, ambitious apprentice from a century-old baking house eyed an opportunity. Staking all his savings, he faced fierce opposition from his mentor and was continually turned down by banks. Yet, in a pivotal meeting with the 8th bank, he placed two bullets on the table. "If you reject me, one for you, one for myself". The young apprentice said, symbolizing the unwavering conviction behind his dream. Today, that very apprentice runs one of the town's most flourishing boulangeries. If there's one lesson from entrepreneurs in France, it's their indomitable spirit. They are not just navigating business challenges; they are contesting societal structures, breaking age-old biases, and rewriting their destiny. Every French entrepreneur is a testament to the power of perseverance, resilience, and sheer audacity. 🥖🔥🚀 #Entrepreneurship

I am pleased to share that in my interview with Caroline Copley from IMD, we delved into the primary challenges I have encountered. Specifically, we explored the hurdles of achieving effective board governance in SME business as an Arab female entrepreneur, thanks to professor Didier Cossin. I had to deal with some company investors who were behaving like board directors,” . In my opinion, building a board can be a double-edged sword. “While a board can bring a fresh perspective, it can also lead to increased expenses, added time commitment, as well as potential for conflict of interest. It can result in routine meetings and repetitive jargon, diverting resources away from strategic innovation,” #imd #hpb #governance #SME #cedem #fsb https://lnkd.in/eVrVWDrv
