This July I will be taking part in a charity Shydive to raise funds for Donegal Youth Suicide Prevention. https://tini.ie/ZJJqYA2pX As we continue to navigate the challenges of modern life, it's essential that we prioritize the mental health and wellbeing of our youth. In Ireland, we've seen a disturbing trend of increasing youth suicide rates, and it's time we take action. According to the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE), suicide is the leading cause of death among young people in Ireland. The statistics are alarming, with 1 in 5 young people experiencing mental health issues. It's crucial that we break the stigma surrounding mental health and create a supportive environment where young people feel comfortable seeking help. As professionals, educators, and individuals, we have a responsibility to promote positive mental health and wellbeing among our young people. This can be achieved through: Encouraging open conversations about mental health Promoting positive body image and self-esteem. Providing access to mental health resources and support services Fostering a culture of inclusivity and empathy. Let’s work together to create a culture that prioritizes mental health and wellbeing. We can all play a role in supporting our youth.

In the last three years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50% 😟 Worrying insights from the Goodchild report 2022 by The Children's Society. As part of Children's Mental Health Week, we need to once again highlight these stats. We need to be doing more every day, but once again we need to use the opportunity across this week to raise our voices on this 📣 So with the theme this year being 'My Voice Matters' I am going to use the next 3 days this week to highlight 3 charities / organisations giving our young people the opportunity for their voice to be heard 💙 #mentalhealth #youngpeople #youngpeoplematter

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, with the new triennial theme: 'Changing The Narrative on Suicide'. This theme focuses on raising awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Changing the narrative on suicide means reshaping how we approach this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. Whether it’s a colleague, a friend or a loved one, let's all take a moment today to reach out and listen. #startheconversation Here are some ways we can help: - Listen without judgement - sometimes the greatest help we can offer is to simply listen. - Be kind to yourself and others - small acts of kindness are impactful. - Share resources - encourage others to seek professional support when needed. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Please reach out. Charities such as Samaritans offer 24/7 helplines, find out more information below: https://lnkd.in/dqaUFSXB #SuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealth #SRCInfrastructure

24-miles. 14 hikers. 3 peaks. 1 long day. We’re raising money and awareness in the fight for better mental health by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for MIND (local branch of Harrogate). So, while we climb high (5200 ft to be exact!) we’re asking you to dig deep and donate. 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, but most people don’t get the help they need. This has to change. That’s why Mind InHarrogate is fighting for mental health, making it an everyday priority. Your donation will help power MIND’s helplines. It will help write mental health information. And it lets Mind push the UK government to do more to help people with mental health problems. Hit the link in our bio to donate today - no matter the amount - so we can hit our target of £2,000 and help make a difference on a local level. #mind #mindcharity #mentalhealthawareness #threeyorkshirepeakschallenge #harrogateagency #charitywalk

TLDR - mental health services are a privilege not available to all and I would be grateful for donations to bigmoose to help make them more available. Some things I have learned about therapy: 1/ therapy won't save you, only you can choose to save yourself. 2/ choosing to get therapy is a brave step, and the first step (accepting you need help) is often the hardest. 3/ therapy gives you tools to help you to reflect on and adjust your behaviours, and empower you to make changes to your life. but you have to do the work. 4/ access to therapy is a huge privilege which requires both time and money (our finite resources). All this is to say, I think therapy is a really important tool for helping with mental health issues, and I think it should be more available. I say this with an ulterior motive. In September, I am setting out to run 250km over 5 days along the Pembrokeshire coast to raise money for bigmoose. bigmoose is a charity which provides access to therapy services to those who may not have access otherwise and, importantly, aims to provide those services quickly. Some of you know I have had a few not great years, and therapy provided me with a non-judgmental and constructive space to explore how I was feeling. Without that space, I would definitely not be where I am now. So, if you are able to dig around behind the couch cushions and donate to help advance the important work bigmoose does, I would be very grateful. And then there is the small matter of running 250km... https://lnkd.in/eWeV_NF3

We Need More Than Awareness: It’s Time for Action It's Suicide Awareness Month, and while mental health awareness is at an all-time high, real change remains painfully slow. Billions is spent globally on campaigns, but where’s the impact? Charities like Mind raised £59.2 million in 2023, with their CEO earning £132,000 – yet they offer no clinical services. Samaritans raise £21 million annually, with a CEO salary of £150,000. Awareness is crucial, but it’s not enough. I’ve been there—serving in the police, battling suicidal thoughts, and fighting my way back. I saw first-hand the gaps in support. Awareness raises money, but action saves lives. That’s why I founded Make Your Life Count, to do more than talk. What do you think? Should charities be doing more than just raising awareness? Let’s push for real change. Drop your thoughts below. And of course if you need help take action because I know what it takes to turn adversity into oppotunity #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #TakeAction #EndTheStigma #MakeYourLifeCount #MoreThanAwareness #TimeForChange #SupportNotProfit #MentalHealthRevolution

‼️ Overnight, our tiny charity InspireUK - The Charity has been inundated with referrals for subsidised and low-cost mental health therapy. We need your help delivering this. So, what can you do? 1) Do you know therapists who might be willing to provide a limited number of free or low cost therapy sessions? Must be BACP registered. Please introduce us! 2) Can you donate? Any finances that come to us go directly to our client work. We have no employees, only tireless volunteers. https://lnkd.in/eYm5tnhe 3) Can you spread the word about both points 1 and 2? Repost this, send it to your friends, tell your family! We help people who face a myriad of barriers to accessing mental health care via traditional routes. The overnight flood of referrals we have received is bittersweet. We feel honoured to be in a position to help so many people but we also recognise this is a symptom of an ever-surging mental health crisis, and broken systems that desperately need repairing to sustain long-term public health, wellbeing and happiness. Help us to continue being one of the many charities who act as a safety net and stop gap for those who are struggling.

Every young person should have access to mental health support. No waiting times. No referral. No appointment. No being turned away because they’re ‘not sick enough’. That’s why we’re calling for early mental health support hubs in every community. We need the Government to #FundTheHubs.
