With a new government comes the opportunity to remove the ostrich’s head from the ground, and start to develop real change to help provide the support our NHS needs to deliver world class care. Currently it’s like having a morris minor and expecting it to compete with F1 cars. You have the mechanics, support staff but the car is out dated, won’t start and can’t even get to the track because of the queues of traffic. When it does get there, there are no tools, workshop. Only a team owner pointing fingers and saying you are expensive compared to the rest of the world. Health and social care is the most important thing. If you are unhealthy, mentally drained, suffering, not supported, don’t have a reliable roof over your head, nothing else in your world will matter. Help health care, mental health, social care and wellbeing of the country and in turn, it will be a happier place the live, work and thrive.

Great to be on a panel straight after this talking about work and health. A fascinating conversation about how we can forge innovative partnerships for prevention. Consensus that we need to think and work differently and that tackling the complex drivers of poor health, including income, employment etc need a multi-sector approach.

Looking forward to the seeing Lord Darzi’s report (And praying the response is measured, iterative and based on evidence from our new PM). But particularly struck by point 26 of his letter to the Prime Minister. https://lnkd.in/ezU6HAVd. For me, I cannot agree more. - We are absolutely in the era of delivering cost effective care. - Nations cannot continue to outrun this crisis, and must find solutions. - I forecast this means many more compromises in what we do and how we do it; a utilitarian philosophy. A united health service is surely the fertile platform to evolve this and offer global solutions.
