I am delighted to finally share a glimpse into the powerful work of our network of partners across the country! This video highlights the perspective of some amazing humans leading and experiencing restorative justice diversion programs. In these programs, participants are invited to deeply explore a set of questions that look very different from the questions asked by the criminal legal system. Instead of focusing on what law was broken and how we punish the person that broke it, restorative justice recognizes that what is elevated as a crime is not always an accurate reflection of the harm caused or a directive on what is needed to make things right. Restorative justice starts with the questions: What happened? Who was harmed and what do they need? Whose obligation is it to repair the harm and meet those needs? Furthermore, these programs address unmet needs that may have led someone to cause harm. By asking questions like “Who else has been impacted by this harm? What are the root causes? and What is needed to address those root causes and prevent further harm?” We delve into the restorative justice process, aiming not only to repair harm but also to sow transformative seeds that lead to deeper relationships and meaningful accountability. TODAY'S QUOTE "If you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself, get a better mirror." ~ Shane Koyczan Canadian poet, author, and performer Shane Koyczan offered this clever perspective on self-acceptance in a line from his poem “To This Day.” The anti-bullying work, which went viral in 2013, urges us to make it a practice to doggedly seek out and appreciate our best qualities. Self-love is a radical act, and we can only benefit from being kind to ourselves. An animated film for "To This Day" was released onto YouTube on February 19, 2013. It features the work of 12 animators, supported by 80 artists. The video is part of the To This Day project and was released to mark Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying initiative. The project aims to highlight the deep and long-term impact of bullying on the individual and help schools engage better with bullying and child suicide. https://lnkd.in/eqYeyGsM
