Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Councils bring together leaders in our community to act as a voice for families and children to make sure their needs are met. By involving leaders from social work, education, government agencies, health care, community resources such as food pantries, business and nonprofits, PCA Councils are able to hear from every viewpoint in a community to better protect children and set communities up for success. Whether it is making connections between resources, working together to develop solutions or creating events that highlight the work the community is doing to prevent child abuse, PCA Council members are helping to create a safer and brighter future for families. Are you supporting families impacted by Child to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA)? Thanks to funding from The Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership and in collaboration with Capa First Response, the MYA RAISE Team have produced a series of insightful films and training resources to help professionals understand and address CAPVA. A recent study by Liverpool John Moors University (LJMU) identified that a significant portion of both parents (65%) and practitioners (85%) agree that CAPVA is a problem in Merseyside. A majority of practitioners (67%) perceived an increase in CAPVA incidents in the past year compared to the previous year, while none reported a decrease. #TalkaboutitTuesday: Did you know that April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month? It takes a village to protect our children. When we know what the "signs" are, we can take action by reporting "suspicious behavior and visual signs." A quick Google search will provide you with your local number! My Why 🤔  Sexual abuse happens more often than we think or know (it's NOT reported🤐) AND is typically happening within the family dynamics that include "close" family friends. I have personal experience, two generations.   It is crucial to educate ourselves and others about protecting our children. Here's what the Whitehouse has to say: https://lnkd.in/etF9CHbn  Our What as a Community and as a Citizen I believe it is our responsibility to be aware and vigilant in preventing child abuse. This can be as simple as recognizing the signs of abuse and reporting it or advocating for policies that protect our children. Again! Do a Google search for your local Child Advocacy Center (CAC) to learn HOW to support the critical programs they provide to help those who have experienced abuse ~ side note: many typically work hand in hand with law enforcement during the investigation process to gather evidence for prosecution.  My local CAC is Kids House of Seminole, located in Sanford, Florida.
