My story The President of the Medical Society of Delaware, Dr Burday, sent more than 50 Emails for me to Residency Programs to recommend me. I (We all should) regularly updated him about my endeavors without becoming pushy, without crossing boundaries, and without making him uncomfortable. I (We all should) have always offered myself rather than always seeking help while reaching out to my contacts and network. I (We all should) regularly engaged in outreach activities. I (We all should) joined the medical society, attended its events, and networked with program directors, associate PDs, DIOs, CEOs, and Presidents. One of the compliments he gave me “He is impressed how I take the bull by the horns.” I joined the MSD committees, and he offered me the opportunity to run the Interest Groups. One of my strengths, which he likes, is instant execution, and he complimented me many times. I didn't have to remind him to recommend me repeatedly; he took time out to do so, and I appreciate that. What I learned on my rotation with Moose Pharmacy this month, was essentially how to think critically in a clinical setting when assessing a patient. It was difficult at first to stop thinking and working with a student-like mind frame. I have gained more knowledge to prepare me for the pharmacy work-life and how Pharmacists are the last stop for healthcare when it comes to patients. I have learned that using proper clinical thinking can allow for interventions that could be vital to a patient's overall health. Pharmacists can be advocates for patients in staying up to date with their preventative health such as shots and regular wellness visits. Pharmacists can be the mid-point between other health professionals and the patient's health goals. I learned on my rotation with Moose how important this role is for pharmacists and how we apply our clinical knowledge can be life changing for all involved. I also gained more confidence in using my clinical knowledge and how to properly search for information that I am not knowledgeable about it. Working with Moose pharmacy has made me excited to take on this role for patients!

Why does the grass seem so green outside of careers in medicine? Ever wonder why you feel behind your non-medical friends? We took that time to learn and apprentice in 1 or more specialties and sub-specialties. We have traded that time for skill, experience, and future earning potential. Our peers in other business fields, however, have used that time to push themselves through the rat race to find their place in it. They've had the time to try it on for size. Most physicians get out of training and 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙩. They assume their usual place based on their title, not on their aspirations. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 sets in and the scarcity mindset drives each of us down a path that has been repeated for generations, by thousands before us. Begin again! No matter where you are in your career - about to start or 20 years deep - take stock of how fortunate you have been and realize that you get to choose what comes next. This applies to every field, but for some reason in medicine, people find themselves more often than not on a very narrow path.
