WHY do whales blow fountains of water into the air? A whale has one or two nostrils, or blowholes, located on the upper surface of the head closer to the back (toothed whales have one blowhole, smooth whales have two). Whales can only breathe through their blowholes, which are directly connected to their lungs. Their mouth is only part of the digestive system. The blowholes have valves that close when the whale dives to depth. A whale can dive into the ocean to a depth of 2 kilometers and stay underwater for more than an hour. When the whale returns to the surface, it releases a fountain, blowing warm, moist air from its lungs through the blowhole before taking another breath. Water that has accumulated at the top of the blowhole escapes with the air. Fountains ejected by large whales can sometimes be seen several kilometers away. You can often tell the species of whale by the shape of the fountain.

Following on from last week’s Volcano post another bit of personal / professional mixology for you! Impressions don’t lie… you like it really 😁 To paint the picture, we set off from home on our traditional round the block canal / lane route only to run into epic mud along towpath… “dont worry, we’ll be back on the lane shortly” I said after a tricky 2 miles… Joy and relief quickly turned to dread as we reached said lane… id completely forgotten that whilst we baked in Lanzarote… Blighty had had a spot of rain… Do we turn back, cut our losses and take the safer option of going with what we know, even though we aren’t going to enjoy it? Or do we take the plunge? The risky option and the best ultimate route to our goal? Yup, you know it. And by hook or by crook that metaphor works for your future career too… I don’t just make this stuff up on the hoof you know 😉 So, on that basis, now we know where we are, enjoy the video… no children were drowned in the process… and, if you are looking to “take the plunge into a bright new future” send me your cv at justin@carpetroles.co.uk or give me a call on 01562 544090… Ditto if you are a hiring manager looking to grow your team… Carpet Roles UK - Flooring Industry Recruitment Specialists (Link across to Facebook Reel to see the Fun!)
A week on from our hike up a very hot and dusty volcano in Lanzarote… something a bit different… again we weren’t avoiding a challenge… not least because to do so involved retracing 2.5 miles along a muddy canal 😆… | Justin Kelly | Bobby Darin · Splish Splash
