There’s a foundational truth in American democracy we’ve somehow lost along the way. It’s that our individual independence is second to our collective interdependence. For decades we’ve moved slowly and steadily towards individualism and personal fulfillment, which in isolation might meet their goals, but when people gather as a nation, there’s a larger, more pervasive truth that supersedes these pursuits. It’s the idea that together is better and more sustainable than alone. As such, each defers to the other to create a holistic society based on certain interdependent truths. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are unattainable nor sustainable when myopically sought to the disregard of others. Personal freedom detached from unity is not a recipe for success. Would that we could get back to the beginning and be the nation we were meant to be.

Have you ever wondered about Cyrillic and its origins or what it looks like? Below you can read the story, and see the original symbols and the ones we're using today (FYI the transition between the two happened very early in its creation)
Today is a special public holiday for us in Bulgaria, the birth of our alphabet. The two brothers, Cyril and Methodius, created our alphabet in the IX century. They are both regarded as the country’s patrons of education and culture. In 1980, Pope John Paul II declared them co-patron saints of Europe. The Cyrillic alphabet is used today in 12 Slavic countries in Eastern Europe and Northern and Central Asia, as well as in non-Slavic countries, such as Mongolia, which adopted it in the 1940s. Celebrate with us :)

Nelson Mandela's words remind us that true freedom goes beyond personal liberation; it encompasses a responsibility to uplift and protect the freedom of others. Freedom is not just an individual right but a collective duty, where one’s actions contribute to a society where everyone can thrive. By respecting and enhancing the freedoms of others, we create a world where equality and justice are not just ideals but lived realities. Mandela's vision challenges us to see freedom as interconnected, urging us to work toward a society where no one is oppressed. This holistic view of freedom is essential for lasting peace and harmony. #legalafricamagazine
