"The Line" is a 200 Meter wide by 105 Mile long linear smart city under construction in Saudi Arabia which is designed to have no cars, streets or carbon emissions. No roads, cars or emissions, it will run on 100% renewable energy and 95% of land will be preserved for nature. People's health and wellbeing will be prioritized over transportation and infrastructure, unlike traditional cities. A cognitive city stretching across 170 kilometers, from the epic mountains of NEOM across inspirational desert valleys to the beautiful Red Sea. A mirrored architectural masterpiece towering 500 meters above sea level, but a land-saving 200 meters wide. Amazing. It'll get done. The way The Line will set new ways of living will then upset a lot of status quo ways of "planning" in Ireland, Europe + elsewhere. "If a zero emissions city can be built, why aren't we doing that?" will be a question kids & then communities ask. "If it can be done in 5 years, why does Planning & Government/bureacracy stop growth to next decade in (Ireland/Europe), set against rising emissions & falling rapidly young home ownership?" "Why didn't you build new cities and towns, with 1.5m young, or, three whole regions of people already waiting in Ireland with €300bn cash in bank accounts, for renewable energy, homes, schools & crèches ? Why are government, departments + Councils/Municipalities always waiting & putting off what can be done today?" Really is going to challenge a lot of norms. No country is perfect. But now there's a race on for young to live more sustainability.
