Sales vs. Customer Service: Who’s More Important? A friend of mine recently shared her experience with me. She said she was interviewed for a job and was asked which was more important: a sales rep or a customer service rep. For a moment, she froze—she wasn’t expecting that question. Her answer? Customer service agent. While we were chatting about this, I immediately told her both professions are important. In fact, they often work hand in hand to drive sales and deliver quality service. What do I mean by this? These two roles are so connected that a sales rep needs some skills you’d usually find in customer service, and vice versa. So, how does a customer service rep actively influence sales? Let’s get straight to the point: Engaging the Customer: Customer service reps know how to talk! They master the art of conversation, and that’s often the first step to getting someone to buy. Providing Information: They’re like a walking FAQ for your business. Whether it’s a first-time customer or a loyal client, they know what to say and how to say it. Honestly, some CEOs don’t even know as much about their services! Bargaining: Yep, they can apply some pressure too. By establishing trust and sharing all the right info, they’re in the perfect position to nudge customers toward making a purchase. Breaking Down Barriers: Slow replies or unanswered questions lead to lost sales. A good customer service rep ensures customers feel heard and valued—no more abandoned carts! At the end of the day, customer service reps do more than “fix problems.” They influence sales, keep customers happy, and drive growth. At my first sales job, I learned a valuable lesson about attention to detail and accountability. I made a critical mistake, quoting the wrong price to a customer. However, I took responsibility post-contract signing, approaching my manager to rectify the error. His advice to learn from the mistake and resolve the situation with the customer was invaluable. #SALESMAN_2 In the present situation for as a sales person! customer selection is very difficult, so what to do? 1. Study about customer background. 2. Know about present business status. 3. At the visit time try to realize of their office environment. 4. Try to realize who are waiting of their reception room and why? ( find the reason like - payment issue, commitment issue etc.) 5. Start gossipping with their receptionist. (Like - How are you? what your company business status? You get your salary timely. etc.) 6. Lastly try to talk with him. who are doing business with them. I think! These six points will be helpful for customer selection. #sales
