Too many business professionals shy away from asking their network for help when in career transition. It's no shame to be laid off and have to launch a job search. The bulk of the jobs available this minute are hidden, doesn't matter where you are in the world. Where do leads for those hidden jobs primarily come from? Your network! Tell your network you are actively seeking your next opportunity. Don't hide. Go for it!

This was a business leaders response to me after they were terminated today! Let's break the career cycle down. You are only employed temporary until your employers decides for what ever reason and there are many that your services are no longer required. That and it's tough to consume is the way employment is today. I sympathize with each person downsized and work hard to help them through an arduous transition with a proactive outplacement program. But there is no dare in being terminated. Yes, its human emotions to feel the rage and the anger when let go. But in this persons case it was a dire need to conserve cash. Was this person ready, did they manage their career, is their resume current, is their LinkedIn profile complete? No is the answer to all. Are you ready if you were terminated tomorrow. I dare you to be prepared and embrace career management.

LinkedIn isn't a static platform. The day you land a new appointment doesn't mean the day you stop activity on LinkedIn. Be visible, be active while employed, steer yourself into becoming known as an expert. Continue posting and commenting and continue connecting within your defined audience.
