Deputy Project Director | Projects Management | Cost Control | Construction Designs Installation | Infrastructure | Fitout | MEP | Contracts Management | Technical Management | Commercial Management | Design Solution
Construction Project Management Construction project management is coordinating all facets of a construction project, from pre-construction to the completed structure. It involves the management of people and resources to control the scope, cost, quality and time of a construction project throughout the project's life cycle. Project managers oversee the planning and delivery of construction projects. They ensure that work is completed on time and within budget. But rather than deal with the project as one big undertaking, it's more manageable to break it down into segments or construction phases. There are six critical stages of construction: pre-construction, sitework, rough framing, exterior construction, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and finishing. Some of these phases are longer than others, but follow this six-step process to set your project up for success. #constructionmanagment #ccm #constructionmanager #pmp #pmi #cm

This week I’m learning about different delivery methods of construction projects. In summary, the delivery method is the system used to plan, design and construct a project. Some common delivery methods include: Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Alliance Contracting (Integrated Project Delivery), and Public Private Partnerships. There are different issues and considerations when selecting a delivery method, so you need and expert advice, like a lawyer in the construction industry, that will guide you through the process. When learning all this I could relate my current work experience and I identified that in this project they used the Design-Bid-Build process. By the other hand, one delivery method caught my attention… the Integrated Project Delivery. It consist of the key parties of the project (Owner, Designer, Contractor) collaborate together from the beginning of the project, and they share all the risks and benefits to achieve the best project outcome. I think this is amazing! Everyone just focus on one goal and then share the rewards, in a fair way, without stepping on each other’s toes and getting along. Imagine what the industry could accomplish with this approach. #constructionmanagement #projectmanagement #mechanicalengineer #hvac #plumbing

Estimating construction project progress using the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) involves breaking down the project into smaller, manageable components and then tracking the completion of each component to gauge overall progress. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to estimate construction project progress using WBS: Develop a Comprehensive Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): · Create a hierarchical breakdown of the project deliverables, starting from the highest-level deliverable (the project itself) and progressively breaking it down into smaller, more manageable tasks. · Each level of the WBS should represent a logical grouping of related activities or work packages. For construction projects, this might include phases such as site preparation, foundation work, structural construction, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) installation, interior finishing, and landscaping. · Ensure that the WBS is comprehensive and covers all aspects of the project scope to provide a clear roadmap for execution. Assign Resources and Time Estimates: · Once the WBS is established, assign resources (such as labor, materials, and equipment) to each work package or activity. · Estimate the time required to complete each task based on historical data, expert judgment, or industry standards. Consider factors such as productivity rates, availability of resources, and potential risks or uncertainties. Implement Tracking Mechanisms: · Implement a robust tracking system to monitor progress against the WBS. This may involve using project management software, spreadsheets, or other tools to record actual progress, resource utilization, and deviations from the plan. · Regularly update the status of each work package or activity based on actual progress, noting any delays, changes, or issues encountered during execution. Analyze and Report Progress: · Analyze the data collected from progress tracking to assess overall project performance and identify areas of concern or improvement. · Generate progress reports regularly to communicate project status to stakeholders, including clients, project sponsors, and team members. These reports should provide a clear overview of progress against the WBS, highlight any deviations or risks, and outline planned corrective actions. Adjust Plans as Needed: · Use the insights gained from progress tracking to make informed decisions and adjustments to the project plan as needed. This may involve reallocating resources, revising schedules, or implementing contingency measures to mitigate risks and ensure project success. · By following these steps and leveraging the WBS as a framework for estimating and tracking construction project progress, project managers can effectively monitor performance, mitigate risks, and ultimately deliver successful outcomes. #constructionprojectprogress, #WBS, #workpackages, #progressreports, #projectplan, #performancemonitoring

🚧📈 Unlocking Project Planning Insights in MEP Installation Construction Field As a seasoned project manager in the MEP installation construction field, I've witnessed firsthand the intricate dance of activities and their interdependencies in project planning. Understanding these relationships is crucial for successful project execution, and it aligns perfectly with Project Management Professional (PMP) principles. Let's delve into some key insights: 1️⃣ Start to Start (SS) Relationship: In MEP installation, a classic example of SS relationship is the coordination between laying electrical conduits and installing HVAC ductwork. Both activities can start simultaneously to ensure efficient use of time and resources. By initiating these tasks together, delays are minimized, and the project progresses smoothly. 2️⃣ Finish to Start (FS) Relationship: Imagine a scenario where the completion of plumbing rough-ins signals the start of interior wall framing. This FS relationship highlights the dependency on one task finishing before the next can begin. By sequencing activities in this manner, we maintain project momentum and avoid bottlenecks. 3️⃣ Finish to Finish (FF) Relationship: Let's consider the commissioning of fire suppression systems and the completion of interior finishes. These activities may have an FF relationship, where both need to finish concurrently to ensure safety compliance and project handover. Aligning these tasks allows for seamless integration and a timely project completion. Understanding these relationships and applying them effectively is essential for orchestrating a harmonious project timeline in MEP installation construction. #PMP #ProjectManagement #MEPConstruction #PMPInsights #ConstructionManagement #EfficiencyInPlanning Share your experiences and insights on managing project activities in the comments below! Let's keep the conversation flowing. 🏗️💡
