Harrison Street's Vice President of Research, Rebecca R., offers insight into our 2025 outlook on purpose-built student housing in North America. As the second largest owner of student housing, we maintain a high conviction in this dynamic sector due to its unique sector characteristics, solid real estate fundamentals and strong liquidity. "Most universities can house only 30% of students on campus and have no real prospect of narrowing that housing gap. Meanwhile, students have prioritized the academic and social benefits of on campus learning." #HarrisonStreet #2025Outlook #StudentHousing #AlternativeRealAssets

Welcome to a huge twist in the Boston real estate game! Have you considered the potential role of universities in our housing crisis? Massachusetts leaders have a new plea: they request local universities to expand into real estate development. While it seems off-beat for universities, their involvement could be just what we need to balance the demand-supply ratio and stabilize the soaring property prices. It inspires us to rethink traditional real estate tactics - to consider who else can bring extra housing capacity and alleviate the burden on our market. Does this prompt you to inquire into your company's current real estate stance? Have you overlooked the potential contributions of non-traditional actors like universities in this market? For a deeper dive and more innovative thinking around the Boston real estate scene, I would suggest chatting with Joe Turco. His expertise can help bridge knowledge gaps and expose fresh perspectives that could redefine your real estate strategies. #BostonRealEstate #BostonRealtor #eXpRealty #TurcoGroup #MoveToBoston

The NYU Furman Center's Local Housing Solutions just released a new case study on how Davis, CA developed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to address increasing student demand for rental housing. The MOU included commitments to increase the supply of university-sponsored housing, make new transit investments, and ensure the university contributed to the city’s public resources. Key takeaways: ▶️ Cities near universities can use MOUs to mitigate the impact of large student populations on housing and public services. ▶️ MOUs can improve the “town-gown” relationship. ▶️ MOUs can provide the framework for regularly tracking and reporting progress. Check out the case study here 👉 https://buff.ly/3WAfYoy
