Understanding the Gap: Long-Term Care Nurses vs. Acute Care Nurses There’s a notable difference between the experiences of long-term care nurses and acute care nurses. Long-term care nurses often work in nursing homes and rehab centers, focusing on chronic conditions and building patient relationships. In contrast, acute care nurses work in hospitals, handling urgent and critical situations with rapid assessment and critical thinking skills. By recognizing and valuing these differences, we can better support all nurses and improve patient care across the board. Hi, I'm Michelle Carter and I'm the owner of MCB Nurse Consultant and I'm the number one DL coach that helps directors and nurses in long term care to increase their influence, their impact and their income. And we do that by leadership development. There is such a huge gap in leadership development for long term care nurses and long term care leaders compared to. Acute care. Do you realize acute care nurses have all types of legal shipments, improvement program initiatives, but is that happened a long term care when you working in a magnet hospital or you're working in a huge conglomerate healthcare system, there are so many different levels of leaders in so many different opportunities for acute care nurses, but that's not the same opportunities we have long term care. We are not always trained before we're in a position. Sometimes we're just thrown into the position and we're not getting the leadership skills that we truly need. People realize, don't people do not realize how much the director of nursing long term care is responsible for. We're responsible for the whole nursing team. We're responsible for knowing the regulations and regulatory compliance. We're responsible for, for our financial operations and we're also responsible for, for increasing that patient. Satisfaction and having quality outcomes, not a mess, just the day-to-day activity. It's so important for us to learn leadership and how we can handle, be able to have self-awareness for ourselves, be able to acknowledge our emotional intelligence and also be able to have that team engaged. We're going to learn how to handle the financial piece also and all that comes and leadership. If you're curious about how you can be or you want to know how you can be a stronger leader.
