Homeless veterans’ charity Launchpad Veterans has appointed four new Trustees to its Board. Ian Dormer CBE, Katherine McGough, Aaron Sahota and Chris Smith have been appointed as Trustees of the charity, following interviews with existing Board members and chief executive. The appointments were approved by existing Trustees at their last meeting in November and it now takes current membership to ten. The charity provides vital accommodation and targeted support to UK Armed Forces’ veterans who have experienced homelessness and have struggled with the transition into civilian life. Launchpad manages three houses in the North of England in Newcastle upon Tyne, Liverpool and Durham and accepts veterans from all over the UK. It provides accommodation for 98 homeless veterans at any one time. Demand for specialist veteran’s accommodation and services is increasing, with 361 homeless veterans’ approaching, or being referred to Launchpad in 2024 alone. https://lnkd.in/eY_Q7QMZ #armedforcescommunity

There were 1,178 overall attendances at Spires from April-June. 266 different people received support from Spires through that period. Here are some of the main outcomes we achieved: 🏠 56 people received housing support - 14 people supported into permanent or temporary accommodation. - 11 people provided with pre-emptive tenancy sustainment support. 👨⚕️ 29 people received health support - 10 people supported to attend a health appointment. - 11 people supported to engage with our Mental health support team. 💷 29 people offered benefits support - 8 people who have started to receive benefits. - 16 people helped to maintain benefits We have raised just over £500 in the first week of our crowdfunding campaign, but we need much more to continue achieving outcomes like these. 3 Takeaways from a visit from Jeremy White CMgr FCMI Head of National Partnerships at Homeless Link:   A big thank you to Jeremy for coming to visit HOPE worldwide homeless services (Two Step) earlier this month. It was so helpful to get his perspective on questions we are wrestling with and the challenges we are facing. He helped us with resources, relationships and reassurance!   Resources: Ideas for reflective practice for helping staff cope with the strains of the job 'Tackling Hate Crime' resources from Homeless Link to help us respond to and prepare for events like the recent riots   Relationships: Senior team members were able to get to know a wise and knowledgeable senior leader in the sector and ask him questions directly Sharing our questions, thoughts and reflections together helped us grow closer as a team   Reassurance: There are no easy answers to the housing crisis in London and we are doing good work We are asking the right questions and Homeless Link are there to help!
