You’d better be-leaf he’s back! You’re not seeing things. Yes, it’s July. No, it’s not come early. But Kevin’s not just for Christmas. Especially when Paris 2024 is at stake. Here he is, the nation’s most iconic root vegetable, on a one-carrot mission to return the missing Olympic torch so the games can begin. Kevin’s very special summer cameo celebrates our wonderful partner @aldiuk’s support of Team GB and ParalympicsGB and we’ve loved bringing this seasonal debut to life. We’re sure you’ll join us in rooting for Team GB!

While the captivating performance of pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis at the Olympics showcased the excitement and popularity of field events, the broader trend in the sport is moving away from including them in high-profile competitions. New, lucrative track-only events are emerging, with significant prize money and media attention. This shift is driven by a focus on creating more compelling narratives and maximizing viewership for television broadcasts. As a result, field event athletes are increasingly marginalized, raising concerns about the future of the sport and the potential for a long-term split between track and field. Another valuable lesson the Corporate and Business world can learn from the Paralympics! Most businesses have Stars that go under the radar, and we should recognise them more! Thanks for sharing Matt Levy OAM :)

While the athletes are the stars of the show, a group of unsung heroes are finally being recognised for their work at the Paralympics. Sighted guides on the track, pilots in the velodrome, and ramp operators on the court are considered the unsung heroes of the Paralympics. These guides and operators are a crucial part of the Games. Many athletes would be unable to compete without them and until recently, their hard work has been unacknowledged. Just as athletes rely on these guides to perform, organisations depend on their support staff, often without giving them the recognition they deserve. Acknowledging and valuing the contributions of these behind-the-scenes workers can enhance team morale, drive performance, and lead to greater overall success.

Ever wondered what unique activities could be Olympic sports? We asked our students this question, and their answers are as creative as they are surprising. Check out the video to hear what they had to say. When you can make someone feel prouder about who they are through your work, that's what purpose and impact is about. Great work Channel 4
Ahhhhh the Paralympics 2024 are complete 20 million people watched on Channel 4 We had our biggest audience share week in 12 years!! People watched on TV, on streaming, on TikTok, on Instagram, on YouTube. We put it everywhere! It was our most accessible games ever. 91% of our presenting and commenting team were disabled, 30% of our crews in total. Live subtitles were available for everything. Peak-time sports had audio description and live signing. The presenters were incredible, the coverage was fun and innovative and joyful, the Last Leg every night was spectacular. The medal haul for GB was unparalleled. The crews and teams worked non stop. I always think that young people are the most accepting and championing of difference and this proved it. Channel 4's coverage was a massive hit with those supposedly elusive young viewers. We recorded our biggest ever share of young viewers - 44% up on Tokyo 2020 and and even up on London 12 years ago. They fundamentally care about equality. Everything about the joy and the brilliance of working on this is summed up for me in this clip from the last night of The Last Leg in Paris with Alex Brooker. It's the pride and the joy and the fun. You can hear his voice cracks with emotion and he talks so passionately about how he and others now see themselves reflected differently to before. Thank you to so many partners and friends and supporters and to everyone across Channel 4. It has been a phenomenal and truly impactful team effort. As a leader, being proud also means taking part in supporting the young talents achieve their full potential in their chosen field.
You made us flippin’ proud twice over the weekend, Carlos! 🤸 Continue to push the boundaries and redefine what’s possible, one somersault at a time. Congratulations as well to all the Filipino athletes competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are always behind as you drive sports differently 🥇
