As an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, Karina Robles Acosta was inspired to join FTI’s Pride Network because “any change, no matter how small, contributes to something greater.” Below, she shares what Pride Month means to her and why it’s so important for companies to have employee resource groups. What inspired you to get involved in FTI’s Pride Network? Karina: I’m one of five brothers and sisters, and one of them is gay. I have accompanied my brother through difficult situations he’s had to face due to his preferences. I have found that many people are insensitive and inflexible toward people who don’t share their ideas, and I think that should change. Since I believe that any change, no matter how small, contributes to something greater, I decided to get involved in FTI’s Pride Network. What does Pride Month mean to you? Karina: For me, Pride Month represents an opportunity to more actively support inclusion. It is an opportunity to promote empathy and respect for the thoughts and preferences of others, with the aim of making a change that can benefit us all as a society, and in particular, the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe I’m a dreamer, but I think empathy is fundamental in this process. I don’t think you need to understand or agree with everybody's opinions or feelings, but I do think everybody deserves respect. Why is it important for companies to have ERGs like the Pride Network? Karina: I think that having ERGs like the Pride Network helps people feel secure and supported at work. #TeamFTI #FTIPride #PrideMonth #Inclusion

As Pride Month begins, I want to highlight how businesses are stepping up for LGBTQ rights. Jessica Shortall's 2019 article, "Why Many Businesses Are Becoming More Vocal In Support of LGBTQ Rights," really resonates with me, even today. For years, businesses have worked on creating welcoming environments for LGBTQ employees and customers. Recently, they've started speaking out more publicly, advocating for policies that protect our rights, even in challenging environments. This shift is largely driven by Millennials and Generation Z, who prioritize inclusivity. These generations are now the largest part of the workforce and influence recruitment, branding, and consumer choices. They understand that LGBTQ inclusion is not only the right thing to do but also good for business. Places that support LGBTQ rights attract more businesses, talent, and events, boosting their economies. Coalitions like Indiana Competes and Texas Competes show the power of businesses working together. These groups provide resources, expertise, and a unified voice, making a strong case for nondiscrimination and reducing political risks. However, despite these efforts, recent setbacks remind us that the fight is far from over. In several states, we've seen new legislation aimed at restricting LGBTQ rights, particularly targeting transgender individuals. These regressive policies threaten the progress we've made and underscore the need for continued advocacy and support from the business community. As a lesbian, it's important for me to show up authentically within my ecosystem. As we celebrate Pride, let's acknowledge the crucial role businesses play in pushing for equality. Together, we can keep working towards a future where everyone feels welcome and valued. #PrideMonth #LGBTQRights #BusinessForEquality https://lnkd.in/gf-be4Qm

Last week, our LGBTQ+ network hosted a panel event on the topic of being LGBTQ+ in the workplace. Colleagues on the panel shared their experience of coming out at work and answered questions from colleagues including ‘How does it feel when you are forced to come out or when someone outs you?’ At Shaw Trust, we celebrate inclusivity and aim to create a work environment where people can be themselves. Our colleague networks, including our LGBTQ+ network, and our network events offer continuous education, a safe space for colleagues, and opportunities for colleagues across the organisation to connect. Our colleagues self-report on diversity information: 0.3% of our colleagues identify as non-binary 2.9% of colleagues identify as gay or lesbian 2.4% of colleagues identify as bisexual Colleagues attending the event shared the following feedback: “Thank you so much to the panel for generously sharing their thoughts and experiences, I love being part of this [LGBTQ+] network”. “As an ally, I am really grateful to have had the opportunity to listen and hear people's experiences.” “These meetings never fail to make me grateful to work somewhere where I feel safe to be myself.” #PRIDE #PRIDEMonth #LGBTQ #Inclusion #Diversity #Work #Employment #Ally

Last night was truly special. I was honored to join an intimate dinner hosted by Fabrice C Houdart of the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors and Matthew Schaab of JPMorgan Chase & Co. bringing together some of Miami's most influential LGBTQ+ leaders and board members. In the vast sea of 5,670 Fortune 500 company board seats, a mere 34 (or 0.7%) are held by LGBTQ+ individuals. This number shrinks further when we set aside the 4 LGBTQ+ CEOs, highlighting an even smaller presence of independent directors. The scenario is more stark in Fortune 1000 and other public companies. Why am I sharing this? When exploring your next career move, one key question to pose to your potential executive team is about the composition of their Board of Directors. How many seats are held by women, people of color, or those who identify as LGBTQ+? If your interviewer is at a loss for answers, it might signal that this company isn't aligned with your values. We each have the power to choose what matters to us, especially in environments where board decisions can directly affect our lives. Stay inquisitive, seek answers, and arm yourself with knowledge. The link below provides more on the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors and the significance of diverse board representation. #representationmatters #retailpride #askquestions

Sunsoa IT Solutions Limited are all for Diversity, Equality and change in attitudes, but was not aware how deep it goes. We have just seen myGWork myGwork is the largest global business community of LGBTQ+ professionals, graduates, inclusive employers and anyone who believes in workplace equality. It empowers the LGBTQ+ community by offering individual members a safe space where they can connect with inclusive employers, find jobs, mentors, professional events, e-learning/training, news and much more. These Jobs mentioned Tableau (so was alerted on search) but are only available to the members of the LGBTQ Community. As well as this we have seen Black in Data who only employ Black people even though they say Coloured. Black in Data is a collaborative movement for people of colour, striving to promote equality of opportunity and representation within the data industry. How Deep does this go, where if we are not in a group then don't get an opportunity. #SunsoaITSolutions #ShapingFutures #WecoverallShades
