We're proud to join with leading philanthropic funders to support a call for action, advocating for stronger commitment to climate resilience and adaptation funding. The costs of adaptation in developing countries is around $215 billion per year. Yet current finance flows cover only 10% of these costs, creating a large finance gap. Philanthropy can act as a critical catalyst to help unlock greater public and private sector funding and investment, champion climate innovation at local and government levels, and drive systems change at the scale needed to support a climate-resilient world. We can’t get over the fact that only 2% of global philanthropy goes to climate causes. And for carbon removal? Just 2% of that. It’s a huge missed opportunity for all those hoping to tackle the climate crisis. As we gear up for Climate Week NYC, it’s a good time to talk about how philanthropy isn’t just a nice-to-have in the climate fight—it’s critical. The global philanthropic market is approaching $1 trillion. Imagine what we could do if more of that went into carbon removal. https://lnkd.in/g_8dTWza

2% is still an absurd figure to me. Still just as shocking now as it was the first time I heard it. Great articulation of the challenge and potential solutions. There are many areas which are just as deserving, certainly, such as education and health, but even so. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason is due to the perspectives shown - philanthropy can provide better education, it can provide cures to deadly diseases, and it can avoid catastrophic climate change? There has to be a better and more positive framing. Each sector - government, philanthropy, and industry - has a large role to play in the climate and more specifically greenhouse gas removal space.

🌍✨ International Day of Climate Action ✨🌍 Today, on International Day of Climate Action, we stand united with communities around the world to combat the effects of climate change. At the Made Better Together Foundation, we are committed to helping marginalized communities not only adapt to the changing climate but also thrive despite its challenges. One of the ways we are taking action is through the donation of shade sails—providing much-needed cool, shaded spaces where communities can gather, children can play, and people can find relief from the increasingly harsh heat. ☀️🏞️ In celebration of this important day, we are excited to announce that we have two special projects lined up! While the installations will take place in the next couple of weeks, these shade sails represent a tangible step toward mitigating climate risks and building resilience within these communities. Climate action is more than just words—it's about taking meaningful steps to create a sustainable future for all, and we are proud to be part of the solution. 🌱💧 Stay tuned for updates on these projects as we continue our journey toward #ClimateResilience and #CommunityEmpowerment. Together, we can make a lasting impact! 💚 #InternationalDayOfClimateAction #MadeBetterTogether #ForTheWild #ShadeSailsForClimate #ClimateActionNow #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #Philanthropy #ClimateChangeIsReal #MitigatingClimateRisks #NonProfit #ResilientCommunities #TenthouseStructures #CommunityFirst #SustainableFuture #NextGenLeaders #CompassionInAction #TenthouseStructures

Did you know that in 2022, giving towards climate change mitigation reached an estimated $7.8 to $12.8 billion? While seemingly large, these amounts represent less than 2% of the total philanthropic giving in 2022 (estimated to be $811 billion). While the growth in foundation giving is a step in the right direction, it's clear that more action is needed to address current climate challenges. With our Climate Messaging Mastery for Nonprofits approaching in a few weeks, Littlefoot is deeply engaged in the world of climate philanthropy. Thankfully, instrumental organizations like ClimateWorks Foundation are publishing valuable knowledge products on climate funding trends to educate and inspire funders. The Chorus Foundation recently closed out its final year of grantmaking. Their Founder and President, and winner of the 2023 EGA Risk Taker Award, Farhad Ebrahimi, reflects on how confronting and defining power led to the Foundation's decision to sunset. "Revisiting our journey at Chorus, we can see a clear path through the following stages: holding power accountably to sharing power equitably to handing over power entirely, with each step contributing the necessary preconditions for the next." https://lnkd.in/eZVEhfZX #SocialImpact #Philanthropy #JustTransition #SpendDown
