Exciting moments at UP Joliet as we efficiently load a container onto a chassis! The biggest challenge was finding a good order chassis for the job. We hooked up to 4 different chassis before we had success. ( 2 bad lights, 1 flatspotted/slid flat ) What’s truly remarkable is that this crane is operated remotely by a skilled professional from an off-site location. Goodwill of the Heartland recently teamed up with @Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce to visit John Deere Davenport Works. The facility manufactures 4WD loaders, motor graders, articulated dump trucks, skidders and wheeled feller bunchers. Visiting with existing employers helps us understand the skills needed in the local workforce.

Jeffrie: "Being able to get out in the weather and speaking to some of the contractors." Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to new drivers? Jeffrie: "Always stay aware on the road—there are so many distracted drivers out there. Everyone’s got a cellphone in their hands. Practice defensive driving." Q: What's one thing about being a driver that might surprise people? Jeffrie: "We play a pivotal role in building society! Without us delivering materials on time, construction would be delayed.
