Women who defend our environment from extractivism often face significant harm rooted in deep-seated structural oppression. Despite the risks to their lives and well-being, women environmental defenders play powerful and diverse roles in uniting communities while resisting exploitation. However, funding focused on addressing gender-based violence against women environmental activists represents only 0.05% of overall foundation funding for the environment. In a collaborative report from GAGGA, Global Greengrants, and SAGE Fund, we share opportunities for funders to better support this work. https://lnkd.in/eUacMRQh

Robie Halip of the Indigenous Peoples Major Group for Sustainable Development talked to us about the need for States to recognize and include citizen-generated data, the collection of stories from the ground that is a powerful tool for advocacy at all levels, and the agenda behind the non-recognition of Indigenous Peoples rights by nation States. Indigenous Peoples are more than data, we are voices and lived experiences that must be taken into account while drafting social impact policies; a one-size-fits-all strategy does not work for us #WeAreIndigenous #thoughtleadership

🤝 The Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) are the only universally agreed blueprint to turn meaningful ambition into transformational change. ⚡ However, businesses report difficulties in integrating the SDGs into their core strategies and in understanding, reporting, and managing their impact on the Goals. 🚀 The UN Global Compact Network UK has just launched its SDG Showcase report, giving an overview of each of the SDGs, explaining why the Goals are material to businesses down to the SDG Target level, and showcasing good practice examples of how businesses in the UK are already contributing to achieving the Goals. 💡 I would like to thank my colleague and co-author Erin Sharpe, who has worked with me and our entire team to create this wonderful resource. We hope that businesses will find it useful to turn their sustainability ambition into action and achieve the SDGs. You can read the report here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d7EnKfDr

1 in 5 Australians are of Asian heritage, yet we do not see enough Asian representation in the climate movement. Current climate spaces are unfortunately failing to support, empower or highlight Asian Australian leaders and their abilities to inspire, organise and mobilise their communities for climate action. Moreover, Asian Australians’ overall climate literacy is hindered by misinformation , limited access to accurate information , leading to passivity and deferential attitudes. Additionally, few climate organisations understand the complexities that Asian Australians experience surrounding differences in confidence to engage in public life. We have much to do. Please join us in our advocacy work to build an environment where Asian Australians are in the forefront of shaping climate solutions for Australia 🙏
On World Environment Day today, we ask that you join us in our advocacy efforts within our Asian Australian communities. Here is to creating a sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for all! Click here to join us! https://lnkd.in/gyRqKjMh
