Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

The recent video shared by Nicholas Ferroni highlighting the extreme pressures and expectations placed on educators, even in situations of illness or terminal conditions, is a stark reminder of the often overlooked realities of the teaching profession. It's a wake-up call to society to recognize the true value and challenges of educators. Too often, the dedication of teachers is taken for granted. The expectation to work through sickness, and in extreme cases, terminal illness, is a testament to the unreasonable demands placed on them. It's not just about the physical act of teaching; it's about the emotional and mental toll it takes. This video sheds light on the harsh truth that educators are often expected to prioritize their profession over their health and well-being. What is an evaluation period? During an evaluation period a college coach may watch college-bound student-athletes compete, visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents. However, a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college’s campus during an evaluation period.

At our conference in Brisbane in October, Tom Brunzell, PhD, Director of Education at Berry Street, showed us the power of using a trauma-informed teaching lens to see a young person differently. Tom challenged us to reframe misbehaviour as "stressed behaviour." When students (and yes, even adults!) are overwhelmed with stress, their actions may seem unsafe or unhelpful.
