The CMC published a final rule on May 10 implementing minimum staffing standards in federally funded nursing homes. The final rule requires nursing homes to maintain enough nursing staff to provide each resident with at least 3.48 hours of care per resident per day with at least .55 hours of care per resident per day from RNs and at least 2.45 hours of care per resident per day from NAs. They are further required to have a RN on site 24/7. Finally, the rules require nursing homes to develop and implement enhanced facility assessments. Nursing homes can apply for waivers and exemptions.
