ONE HAS TO BALANCE THESE REQUIREMENTS IN THE EYES OF THE BOARD AND IN THE EYES OF MANAGEMENT AND RANK & FILE. NOT MANY EXECUTIVES KNOW THIS PRINCIPLE. And given our climate, it’s imperative for leaders to self-reflect constructively. By showing more empathy (where appropriate) may likely signal to your team and/or employees that you are aware as a leader and sensitive to the intricacies of the organization’s culture, thus solidifying more buy in for organic engagement and accountability.

In my experience, few organisations encourage self reflection and the articulation of an employee's "plan A". When people feel supported to voice their dream (without fear of being fired), more often than not there's a way to realise that aspiration at the place they work.
