Becoming a Senior Engineer - 9 A Senior engineer should be aware that they will never be fully sufficient in any subject and should accept that self-improvement is part of the job. They should acknowledge that they can't know everything and that there are always better engineers out there. Software development is an ongoing process, and engineers are responsible for this development. They should understand the importance of the team in keeping up with the constantly renewing information and evolving practices in this ongoing process.

As a software engineer, we need to become experts at managing complexity. Whatever the nature of the problems that we solve or the technologies that we use to solve them, addressing the complexity of the problems that face us and the solutions that we apply to them is a central differentiator between bad systems and good. To become experts at managing complexity, we need to keep in mind the following concepts: 1. Modularity: dividing a software system into independent modules or components for easier development, testing, and maintenance. 2. Cohesion: the measure of element relatedness within a module or component for achieving common functionality. 3. Separation of Concerns: independent handling and isolation of aspects or concerns in distinct modules or components. 4. Abstraction: simplifying complex systems or concepts by focusing on essential features and hiding unnecessary details for easier understanding and implementation. 5. Loose Coupling: minimize dependencies for flexibility and easier maintenance in software systems.

If a Senior Systems Engineer is saying of example a younger software engineer can look at even if takes a younger software engineer to view previous work for physical engineering it might take a younger software engineer a few minutes to read the expected outcome of a task and ask a Senior Systems Engineer a few more questions on MS Teams in a few hours

How do you fixed a problem you encounter at work? Answering a question for someone on my YouTube channel. Specifically for work. You can ask a colleague for help, look at old tickets closed from other techs because maybe they encounter the same issue or I would use our confluence/knowledge base article to help me find answers. If I don't see anything than I would google the error message. Really depends what the error message is. I been in IT for over 10 years, some stuff I already know how to fixed without using google. Keep in mind that on my end. I always have a lab environment set up so I try to replicate the issue on my end and try to reverse engineer the problem. #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #servicedesk #servicedeskanalyst #servicedeskengineer #cybersecuirty #systemengineer #systemsengineering

Software Engineer Specializing in React JS and Flutter | Passionate about Frontend and Backend Development
🌟Transitioning from Theory to Practice in Software Engineering🌟 During my role as an IT Assistant Engineer at Central Police Hospital, I encountered real-world challenges that textbooks could not have prepared me for. From ensuring zero downtime in critical communications systems to implementing robust network solutions, it was a hands-on introduction to the responsibilities of a software engineer. 🔹 Challenge: Building and monitoring complex IP telephone infrastructure. 🔹 Solution: Custom scripts to automate routine checks and alerts. How do you adapt theoretical knowledge to on-the-ground realities in your tech role? #EngineeringLife #SoftwareDevelopment #Networking #TechChallenges

Things change fast around here.... what was going to be a smallish update quickly turns into doing lots of changes, speed increases and generally a bit of an overhaul well that's development for you, but the work was well worth the time as there are big differences in this release.. It's typical you start little and before you know it you have done lots of work as one thing leads to another. https://lnkd.in/eXgNdNcu virtualwiring@gmail.com Andrew #virtualwiring #virtualprogramming #theserviceengineer

If you make a mistake, learn from it and minimize the chance of making that same mistake a second time. In the context of software engineering, this usually means tightening up your processes, test suites, or system monitoring capabilities. #softwareengineering

This (https://lnkd.in/d3mWDkH8) article by Betsy Beyer and David Hixson gives the most accurate perspective I've come across of what systems engineering is about. Highly recommended read for leaders, recruiters and everyone working or with interest in IT systems management, infrastructure and software development.
