If the construction industry is going to attract new talent to the market, its definitely got to get on the ball about outreach and engagement. This can be done through a variety of ways, one being collaboration with schools and colleges. I remember when I was in middle and high school, they had shop class that I took every semester. I was able to learn some basic skills of carpentry that I still apply today (on a much smaller scale compared to yall). Second, we as an industry really need to highlight how bad ass it is to work in construction. Who else builds such amazing buildings that we all use every day. Not to mention, the construction industry provides competitive salary, benefits and the success of a job well done at the end of the day. What are some other ways we can get our younger generation or those looking to transition into the Construction industry interested?
What the heck?! What's happening to the trades? Our field trip to Lafayette Village has Ryan and Jeremy wanting to hear from you about where you think the talent is going. 👷♂️ 👷♀️ #WhatTheHeck #ApexRecruitmentGroup #CosntructionJobs #ConstructionRecruitment

Really mixed feelings about this. Whilst Barratt and Redrow are no doubt some of the best - if not the best - volume housebuilders around, potential job losses of c. 800 employees along with nine office closures feels borderline criminal. Naturally, there's hope that this joint behemoth of housing can build some astronomical numbers, however from a socio-economic perspective do the benefits really outweigh the risks? Or is this ultimately a deal for the shareholders? We (Strata) can't help everyone in housing but if you're currently working in a Technical/Design capacity, feel at risk, and are keen to explore a role in Civil or Structural Engineering, then this is our skillset and we can help you find your next role. #barratt #redrow #housing #engineeringjobs #constructionjobs #stratajobs https://lnkd.in/escJmhmA

When Turner Construction Company established our permanent office in Memphis, I began to dive into the dynamics of our city. A stark reality became apparent – there is a critical gap in the representation of skilled workers in the construction trades. Most skilled tradespeople commuted from areas outside of Shelby County and didn't mirror the demographics of the city they served. This ignited a shift in our priorities in the Mid-South, leading our Turner office to address workforce development as a primary focus. Within our workforce efforts, diversity, equity, and inclusion are three closely linked values that are key to building stronger, more representative teams of workers and trade partners. Partnerships play a pivotal role in making this happen. As a board member of Go Build Tennessee, leading our Turner team in actively contributing to initiatives that promote workforce development and diversity in the construction sector. Go Build Tennessee is an outstanding driver of engagement with diverse communities and across our state, breaking down barriers and fostering greater inclusion within the workforce. Other collaborative efforts, such as the partnership between the West Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and UpSmith, showcase our commitment to fostering meaningful connections that empower workers in the Memphis region. As the ABC of West TN Board Chair for 2024, I want to cultivate further opportunities for collaboration in our communities and see our entire local industry take pride in our ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify our workforce. There are many companies, individuals and organizations striving to make our workforce represent our communities better because of that diversity. By embracing each other’s ideas and working together, we enrich our industry with fresh ideas and varied perspectives that make us all stronger. As we build our city’s future, we should do so with a dedication to inclusion where people feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued. Our actions today shape the future of our industry, and that future belongs to everyone. #TurnerConstruction #Memphis #workforcedevelopment #careers
