According to this HealthExec article, the data breach at Change Healthcare has taken a concerning turn. The hacker group RansomHub has now begun selling the stolen data from the breach on the dark web. The stolen data is said to include a massive trove of sensitive information, including medical records, dental records, personal health information on active duty military, insurance records, and personally identifiable information like addresses and social security numbers. Shockingly, the hackers also claim to have obtained "thousands of source code files from Change Healthcare solutions," which could potentially be used to breach the organization's systems again. The hackers have warned that since Change Healthcare and parent company UnitedHealth Group process sensitive data from "tens of insurance companies," they likely have data on most of the U.S. population. The group is now asking insurers to reach out to them directly to try to stop their data from being sold to the highest bidder on the dark web. This latest development in the ongoing Change Healthcare data breach saga is extremely concerning, as the exposure of such a vast amount of sensitive healthcare data could have severe consequences for millions of individuals. Congress is holding a hearing to investigate the breach further: https://lnkd.in/ebN-S7se https://lnkd.in/egV9eyxj #healthcare #databreaches #datasecurity #cyberattack #cybersecurity #ransomware #hipaa #phi #pii
