𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼, 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝟭𝟱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁, 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗼. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟵 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸-𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 1. If the entry allows you to submit supporting evidence, make sure you do. It’s a great opportunity to impress the judges, other entrants will do it and it looks lazy if you don’t 2. A couple of the entries used bullet points throughout. This small thing makes it much easier to read the entry and guarantees important messages stand out 3. The best entries used specific data to support their claims 4. Don’t embellish the truth, one of the judges might know more than you think 5. Get someone who didn’t write the entry to carefully proofread it, typos look lazy 6. For every claim you make, include evidence to prove the point you’re making 7. Don’t put all your evidence in the supporting documents, use it liberally throughout the main entry 8. Don’t slag off your competition, it’s not classy 9. Don’t make extravagant claims for example, “we offer an unmatched service” if you’re not going to give evidence to support the claim And finally, for the ‘you only have to buy a table to win brigade’ I haven’t been told who is attending or who the sponsors are. The judging process is 100% clean.

Awards – worthwhile or meaningless?   As with most things, the answer is ‘it depends’.   Awards can be an excellent way of giving you PR content for press releases and social media. They can give you the opportunity to get external recognition for some great work done by you or your team, and they add social proof to your website and marketing material.   They can also be expensive. It takes time to put in a good entry form, and the awards themselves can be costly to attend, with tickets costing well into the hundreds of pounds, before you include travel and accommodation.   It’s also sensible to be selective about which awards you choose to enter. A well-recognised award may well be worth the investment of your time and money.
