How did I switch from Mech. Design Engineer to Sales to now a Product Management role? This question has been asked of me the most. After graduating as a Mechanical Engineer in 2018, my journey began as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Despite landing my dream role of an R&D Design Engineer, the reality didn't match my expectations. Feeling dissatisfied, I made the bold decision to pivot my career path. I leaned into my strengths—being comfortable on stage and in the spotlight, something that had defined my school and college years. Despite feeling under-confident in my sales abilities, I decided to embrace the challenge and transitioned into a sales role. Surprisingly, I found success in it while realising how sales was a crucial life skill. However, I started missing the creative process, the core reason I had initially pursued R&D, leading me to explore software engineering as an essential modern skill. This exploration eventually led me to Product Management, a role that immediately resonated with me. It not only allowed me to be at the forefront of tackling new business challenges by creating new solutions but also satisfied my creative, curious, and ambitious nature in ways previous roles hadn't. However, conversations with my software engineer friends highlighted a common challenge – the lack of technical competency in Product Managers. Motivated by this insight, I took the longer route of learning software engineering before pursuing a product role, crafting my unique career path. It's been quite the journey, but here's to hoping for an eventful and intriguing path ahead! 🥂 #CareerSwitch #ProductManagement #GrowthJourney

Head of Product Development | Automotive Systems Engineering | Requirements Engineering | Functional Safety | Digital Coaching & Mentoring
🚀My Story : From GET to Product Development Head - My fast track journey as a System Engineer 🚀 🙋My career began with a GET role in wiper development at a leading Indian Tier 1 company. Though I was an electrical engineer, I found myself deeply involved in mechanical development due to the nature of the product. It was my first career university, where I gained invaluable experience. 👍After 4.5 years, I transitioned to a US-based powertrain component manufacturer, focusing on motors. My thirst for electronics led to a breakthrough—documenting a test spec for a cluster. This was the turning point that shifted my focus from mechanical development to becoming a system engineer for embedded products. I embraced the challenge, leading a program as a system engineer, which eventually paved the way for my role as a PDTL, managing full-blown cluster development. 🌟My journey continued at Johnson Controls - Automotive Experience, where I evolved into an Engineering Manager and then Head of Department for Functional Safety. Today, I proudly lead as the Product Development Head at a pioneering Indian Tier 1 OEM company, steering engineering development for both HV and LV products, engineering quality, and new product control. 🌟🌟The role of a system engineer was the catalyst for my career growth, and I encourage all aspiring professionals to embrace this path. It can take you all the way to the level of CTO!🌟🌟 This is my reason to start my career coaching young engineers to start & excel their career in systems / requirements engineering in the automotive industry. I wish my students to excel more than what I have done. Join on my mission…. See the first comment for more details. #CareerJourney #SystemEngineer #RequirementsEngineer #Leadership #ProductDevelopment #AutomotiveEngineering #CareerGrowth

Why is it that many engineering technologists do not want to embrace their unique title? An engineer is a designer whilst an engineering technologist is hands-on and applications-oriented , basically a developer. Engineering technologists are more likely than engineers to focus on post-development implementation, product manufacturing, or operation of technology.A bachelor's degree is a base educational requirement to be either an engineer or an engineering technologist.
