Thanks to many readers of my HS2 proposals for their feedback and encouragement. One subject I need to clarify is my proposed capacity use in the Colwich area. The Old Oak Common 10 tph service will work, in my view, with only HS2 phase 1, because the proposed quantum of access rights is broadly the same north of Handsacre as now. Adding my proposed 2 tph Curzon Street - Manchester to this, whether via Hixon or Stafford, will almost certainly exceed the capability of Colwich. It might be theoretically possible to run down trains via Stafford and up trains via Hixon to avoid crossover conflicts at Colwich Junction, but we'd need to look further at the detail of this along with the full timetable of passenger and freight services through Colwich. The Curzon St - Manchester service also faces a problem that the third side of the Delta Triangle is not proposed to be finished at present. In conclusion I believe the proposed 2tph Curzon Street - Manchester service can probably only commence when capacity at Colwich and the Delta triangle are resolved one way or another in the future, and for now the existing XC New Street - Manchester service would continue.

NHSS12AB TSCO/TSS & RAISING THE BAR 39: CONFUSION CLARIFIED?! Across the Highways industry, there appears to be growing confusion regarding the differing requirements between the information detailed within the NHSS12ab document and the Raising the Bar (RtB) 39 document, with regards to the NHSS12a TSCO/TSS role(s). HERE, WE AIM TO CLEAR UP THE CONFUSION: The understanding of Up To Speed Training is that the NHSS12ab document details the route(s) to achieving the NHSS12a TSCO/TSS qualification, which is certified by Lantra, and includes the required mandatory prerequisites to be obtained. Whereas, National Highways has established its own set of criteria for working in such roles on sites across their network, which includes additional qualifications beyond those outlined in the NHSS12ab document. It is understood that this approach reflects the commitment from National Highways towards improving standards for individuals working on their network, as the additional requirements aim to "raise the bar" by ensuring that workers not only meet the basic qualifications but also possess enhanced skills necessary for safe and effective operation on their sites. IN CONCLUSION... While the NHSS12ab document gives the foundational qualification requirements for the role(s), which are generally accepted as suitable across the majority of the wider UK road network, the expectation of National Highways as outlined in the RtB 39 document, insists on additional competencies to elevate overall site standards. Therefore, we understand that individuals aspiring to work in the 12a TSCO/TSS capacity on the National Highways network must enhance their skill set and the qualifications held, to meet these heightened expectations. #UpToSpeed #Training #Assessment #GetTrained #GetAssessed #GetUpToSpeed #NHSS12 #RaisingTheBar

Yet another great topic being covered by our very own Calum Mansell at this years ASCP UK Safety and Compliance Conference. It'll be good to see you there! #safetyandcompliance #electricalsafety #ascp2024
Hello All I’m back on the stage at June’s ASCP’s Conference ASCP UK I have just finalised my presentation, where I’ll be discussing some of our findings in the field – quantity focus over quality, evidence of reduced competency levels, absent policies and procedures, and a lack of awareness of the duty holders’ responsibilities. Is this increasing the risk to those using electrical equipment? Come along and find out! The Art of TPA Management in Large Loss CAT Events In the restoration industry, Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) can serve as both a crucial resource and a potential hurdle, especially during large-loss catastrophic (CAT) events. Adopting this strategy will help you safeguard your margins and minimize chargebacks while navigating the complexities of working with TPAs. Step 6️⃣- Strategic Pricing: Walking the Tightrope 💲➕ Cost-Plus Pricing Model: Consider a cost-plus pricing strategy, where you charge the actual costs plus a predetermined profit margin. This model provides transparency and justifies your charges to TPAs. 🔍 Efficiency Improvements: Continuously seek ways to improve operational efficiency. Lowering your costs without sacrificing quality boosts margins and reduces the risk of chargebacks. #restoration #CATevents #understanding #keystosuccess
