It is disappointing to see people in health care routinely recommending supplements before asking about what people normally eat and advising how they can get those nutrients from food. Whether it's protein, iron or magnesium or fiber... let's talk about FOOD FIRST. Yes, there certainly are cases where food sources may not be sufficient sources of the amount needed or someone may not be able to eat certain foods. But shouldn't we start by asking questions about someone's typical diet? Shouldn't we at least have them try to get nutrients from food? #FoodFirst

Ok - this might ruffle some feathers but hear me out: Does organic/healthy food cost more? Yes, unfortunately (don’t ask me how naturally grown food, with less chemicals and processing costs MORE but that’s a topic for another day). Do vitamins and supplements cost more than most prescriptions? Yes, again unfortunately it’s true - but we won’t get into how big pharma really makes their $ But consider this - you could pay a little more today for better food/nutrition and have a healthier body over the course of your entire life OR you can pay less today and then deal with the poor health the rest of your life.
