Reviewed as the best of 5 products in #extraction of #DNA from #soil #environmentaltest #dnapurification
We at MACHEREY-NAGEL take pride in the fact that our kits are used in important research all around the globe! Hence, we are always thrilled, when our products are mentioned in publications in such a high regard as in the latest publication of Galla G. et al. "Comparison of DNA extraction methods on different sample matrices within the same terrestrial ecosystem" (2024). Our NucleoSpin® Soil kit was determined to perform the best out of 5 kits used for DNA extraction from soil and offered the best contribution to overall sample diversity! I am thrilled to announce that one of the chapters I co-authored, titled "Biofilm-Forming Capability of Bacillus and Its Related Genera," has been successfully published in Springer. The concept of biofilm is not a recent discovery; it dates back to Leeuwenhoek's studies in 1684 when he first observed biofilms on tooth surfaces using his primitive light microscope. While conventional microbial biofilm research has primarily focused on clinical fields, particularly addressing ESKAPE group pathogens causing nosocomial infections, this chapter explores the recent shift in attention to intriguing genera within agricultural contexts. Notably, cyanobacteria and Pseudomonas fluorescence have exhibited beneficial impacts. This development sets the stage for the potential creation of Biofilmed Biofertilizer (BFBF). Beyond concentrating on Gram-negative bacteria and algae, this initiative seeks to compile information on Gram-positive bacteria, specifically Bacillus species, shedding light on their biofilm formation and diverse roles in various aspects of human life. Open for further discussions on this interesting topics!

Our 2018 trial with @midwesternbioag showed just how big of a difference biology can make in corn. BIOACTIVE LiquiLife™ (formerly CX-1) with an activator improved the consistency in cobs and with tip fill. #bioactiveag

In June, I had the opportunity to participate in the #PlantBiology2024, in which I presented the progress of results of an important chapter that I have been working on in my doctoral thesis at Jannink's Laboratory #CornellUniversity; in which we seek to understand the genetic architecture of the post-harvest physiological deterioration in cassava. The understanding and advances obtained to date are of great importance to the countries in the #NextGenCassava program. I would like to express my gratitude for the intellectual and material support of the institutions that made possible the participation in the congress such as EMBRAPA, Cornell University, Fealq, CAPES and CNPq. #Plantbiology2024 #cassava #dataanalysis #PPD

Yes, I agree. - Determining how accumulation of trait complementarity as opposed to trait presence contributes to performance (and/or fitness). - Evolutionary innovation! Isn’t this, indeed, what crop plant - and in particular forage crop - breeders do, but not entirely systematically? Combining genes or entire genomes of more or less dissimilar cultivars? Genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics analyses allow, now however, quantifying phenetic and genotypic dissimilarity ‘gradients’’ and detecting discontinuities, which reestablishs some systematics in the definition of the study subjects. Along similar lines of thought, aren’t our wild plants (and even fungi) ‘practising’ recurrent cycles of allo- and autoploidization, followed by diploidisation, to do exactly this testing of benefits of accumulative differences - i.e., finding the optimal number of concurrent differences to take advantage of unoccupied ecological niches? Polyploid swarms of ferns in their haploid gametophytic development stage could serve as a lab-based (small and faster - all year round) model system with their variable and large number of chromosomes in haploid thalli. Using this principle of accumulating beneficial traits through repeated cycles of genetic crossing and selection, plant breeders search for cultivars of improved performance. As mycorrhizologists and plant-soil feedback (agro-)ecologists, we could join their evaluation efforts.
