Audio processors undergo continuous advancement, enabling new hearing implant recipients to benefit from the latest technology. For long-time users, though, can an upgrade to a new processor be beneficial? Lailach et al. evaluated audiological outcomes and subjective benefits in 99 patients, 69 of whom were fitted with a MED-EL implant, comparing their old processor to their new one after four weeks of wearing. The study concluded: 1. New processors can have audiological and subjective benefits. 2. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can be used to identify patients who have subjective benefits but not audiological improvements. 3. PROMs should be integrated into the fitting process. 4. PROMs should be included when applying to payers for approval of an upgrade. Read more about this HNO study here: https://lnkd.in/dTcb_uhP #medicalresearch #audioprocessor #audpeeps
