Audio processors undergo continuous advancement, enabling new hearing implant recipients to benefit from the latest technology. For long-time users, though, can an upgrade to a new processor be beneficial? Lailach et al. evaluated audiological outcomes and subjective benefits in 99 patients, 69 of whom were fitted with a MED-EL implant, comparing their old processor to their new one after four weeks of wearing. The study concluded: 1. New processors can have audiological and subjective benefits. 2. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can be used to identify patients who have subjective benefits but not audiological improvements. 3. PROMs should be integrated into the fitting process. 4. PROMs should be included when applying to payers for approval of an upgrade. Read more about this HNO study here: https://lnkd.in/dTcb_uhP #medicalresearch #audioprocessor #audpeeps

The Power of Technology in Accessibility 🌐💬 Technology has the potential to transform accessibility, but it needs to be done right. My sister-in-law, who lost her hearing as a teenager, uses cochlear implants to hear and relies on texting for communication, especially when phone menus are challenging. While these tools have greatly improved her life, there’s still more to be done to make technology fully inclusive. It’s a reminder that while tech can bridge gaps, we must continue pushing for broader accessibility. #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveTech #CochlearImplants #CommunicationForAll #TechForGood #AccessibleFuture

Entrances: Speaker systems or communication systems at building entrances, such as entryways, lobbies, or reception areas, are often not designed with accessibility in mind for individuals who have hearing loss. This can lead to difficulties for many people to clearly hear important announcements, messages, or instructions. Some potential solutions to improve accessibility include: - Installing induction loop systems (hearing loops) or systems that transmit audio signals directly to hearing aids or cochlear implants. - Providing written or visual displays of announcements, such as digital screens or printed notices. - Using clear and simple language in communication - Training staff to be aware of hearing loss and provide assistance when needed. By implementing these solutions, buildings can become more inclusive and accessible for individuals who have hearing loss. For access screening, contact Fanie du Toit at Faniedreams or WhatsApp text message to 082 820 7358. #faniedreams
