GE HealthCare announces the commencement, and its leading industrial role, in Thera4Care an initiative aimed at revolutionizing the use of theranostics to broaden patient access in Europe. The €25.3 million project gathers 29 partners from top European academic and clinical sites, small and medium-sized enterprises, and patient advocacy groups. Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly ten million deaths in 2022. By 2050, the global burden is expected to grow to 35 million new cancer cases, which is due, in part, to population growth and aging. As a breakthrough approach to treating cancer, theranostics integrates imaging diagnostics and targeted therapeutics for personalized treatment of disease. Highlights from our latest research publication in JAMA Oncology! https://lnkd.in/eRf8TjFz TL;DR: We developed an AI platform that automatically extracts granular details about the distribution of different body compartments from medical images. Using this platform, we analyzed CT scans for nearly 2,000 patients with lung cancer and found strong associations between the evolution of these metrics during cancer treatment and patient outcomes. We are making this tool open source for the cancer research community to utilize, and we hope it will help provide new insights to improve patient selection, management, and surveillance. #lungcancer #AI #research

"A collaborative project to bring the promise of cell therapy to patients with a deadly form of brain cancer has shown dramatic results among the first patients to receive the novel treatment. In a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers from the Mass General Cancer Center have shared the results for the first three patient cases from a phase 1 clinical trial evaluating a new approach to CAR-T therapy for glioblastoma (GBM). The trial, known as INCIPIENT, is designed to evaluate the safety of CARv3-TEAM-E T cells in patients with recurrent GBM. Just days after a single treatment, patients experienced dramatic reductions in their tumors, with one patient achieving near-complete tumor regression. In time, the researchers observed tumor progression in these patients, but given the strategy's promising preliminary results, the team will pursue strategies to extend the durability of response." #braincancer #oncology #glioblastoma #gbm #cart

As Dr Vered Stearns noted in the NEJM TAILORx editorial, "Perhaps most importantly, TAILORx provides a wealth of well-annotated clinicopathological data and a rich biospecimen repository that can be used to investigate emerging tissue-based and circulating biomarkers."
