🌟 Breaking Ground in Surgical Innovation with the VORTEX System! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce the national launch of the VORTEX Surgical Suction Clearing system, developed by Stephen P. Kalhorn, MD, FAANS at the Medical University of South Carolina in collaboration with VayuClear and Medical Access Partners, LLC. This innovative device revolutionizes surgical procedures by efficiently clearing suction lines, enhancing safety and procedure flow. Dr. Kalhorn first used the VORTEX system in a lumbar procedure this past June, instantly benefiting from its efficiency. Over the past few months, it has proven invaluable in multiple surgeries, reducing clogging frustrations and saving significant time. Our dedicated team at the Zucker Institute was instrumental in bringing VORTEX to market by offering comprehensive support. We are excited to see Dr. Kalhorn's vision come to life and are committed to fostering innovation and developing cutting-edge technologies like VORTEX. We were thrilled to showcase the pivotal role of our envivoPC® technology in evaluating medical devices. During this session, we captured compelling evidence demonstrating how our cadaveric perfusion system accurately simulates aortic valve activation—a critical factor in testing device performance and reliability against real physiological conditions. A special thank you to NAMSA in Minneapolis for their invaluable collaboration. Together, we captured video footage of valve movements with our system, X-ray imagery of the aorta, and cardiac ultrasound images highlighting valve dynamics. These advanced simulations replicate first-in-human trial conditions, offering critical data for evaluating the performance and reliability of medical devices as they approach first-in-human trials. By providing lifelike, cadaveric models, we can accelerate R&D processes, enhance device optimization, and streamline the transition to clinical trials, ultimately driving faster advancements in medical technology. These innovations are crucial for advancing medical technology and improving patient outcomes. We look forward to more groundbreaking developments and successful partnerships ahead! In this podcast Teri Yates answers many of the questions that #surgeons ask us frequently during curbside consults. #obl, #asc, or #hybrid which is right for your practice? Accountable Physician Advisors can help you answer that question with confidence and devise a plan to make it happen.
This week on BackTable: Teri Yates joins the show to discuss the nuances of choosing between building an Office-Based Lab (OBL) and/or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Teri is the CEO of Accountable Physician Advisors, a consulting firm which specializes in OBLs, ASCs, and hybrid models for private-practice physicians. She is also President of DocCentric, a company focused on supporting physicians building and leading their own ASCs. The discussion includes a comprehensive analysis of the financial, regulatory, and operational considerations for physicians contemplating this decision. This includes insights into reimbursement models, Medicare regulations, and the strategic advantages of each model. The episode also touches on the importance of feasibility studies, partnerships with other specialties, and real estate strategies when developing these facilities. The conversation provides valuable advice for navigating the complexities of ASC development and emphasizes the value of maintaining independence and leveraging physician-owned models for long-term success. Even if the title of a research study states that joint arthroplasty patients have been studied and an abstract refers to joint arthroplasty, if the hospital studied has three surgeons who performed 80% of those cases, what has been studied are three surgeons' patients. We showed that variability among surgeons in their contributions to incremental costs associated with perioperative complications only slightly exceeds the variability of those incremental costs among surgical categories. Consequence: perioperative surgical home and enhanced recovery research results involving single institutions and a small number of surgeons are generalizable to other hospitals and healthcare systems. https://lnkd.in/gdksx3im
