We are proud to announce that following the Ministerial Keynote by Assistant Minister Julian Hill, AFL Executive Tanya Hosch will joining us as panellist, alongside MDA’s CEO Mariam Veiszadeh, Nine’s CEO Mike Sneesby and Assistant Minister Hill in an important discussion moderated by Nine’s Breakfast TV host Sarah Abo About the Event: After a successful and historic first event that brought together media executives from across Australia’s leading news organisations, MDA’s Industry Round Table is back! Hosted by Channel Nine at their North Sydney offices, Media Diversity Australia (MDA) will hold its second industry Round Table bringing together Australia’s media leadership to work towards committing to a path to industry-wide improvement around diversity, equity and inclusion. A keynote address will be delivered the Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs Julian Hill MP, followed by an esteemed panel. Attendees will include media executives and other senior representatives from MDA member organisations including from Nine, AAP, ABC, News Corp Australia, SBS, Seven, the Conversation Group, The Guardian, ARE Media, Junkee Media, National Indigenous Times, Hachette Publishing, Women’s Agenda, Netflix & more! Although the meeting itself is a private round table event, you can purchase tickets to attend the morning segment which features a keynote address from the Assistant Minister as well a panel discussion featuring some key media influencers, followed by networking. Last year, the Round Table provided a foundational platform for an honest and robust initial discussion around barriers to equity and inclusion and opportunities for industry collaboration. This year we will see discussions about the challenges that continue to confront the industry and how the implementation process is going on the road to a more representative and equitable media landscape. Last week, from far north Queensland, I practised what I preach and said "yes" to an interview on ABC radio talking about The Visibility Project . Here's how I prepared: - First off, I reminded myself it’s just a conversation. No one wants to hear rehearsed "perfect" lines. - Don't over-prepare. For me, spending hours or days going around the mental cul-de-sac thinking about it only makes me unnecessarily nervous. Instead, I decide when I'll start thinking about it, which is usually the day before. This approach works for me, but, put simply, I know everyone's brains are different. - Instead of worrying about how it would go, I asked myself, "who can I help by showing up?" Do it for them. - I visualised it going well. Not in an "I'm going to sit and meditate" kind of way, but just every time it popped into my head. Think about it going well. Simple but effective. - I zeroed in on my key points: highlighting my amazing clients, sharing interesting research on why women avoid visibility, and showcasing our project's impact. - I decided to enjoy it! What fun! What an opportunity! Now, on the other side of the interview, I’m happy to say it went well. I had so much fun discussing a topic so close to my heart. I'm also excited to share that the program will be interviewing someone from The Visibility Project each week between now and Christmas, highlighting fascinating South Australian women doing incredible things.
