Just returned from DIA Europe 2024, where "Collaborating for Healthcare Innovation" was the conference theme.
This event was a great reminder of the importance of working together to achieve great things. - We must collaborate, across industry and with regulators as we share a common goal 'Making effective and safe medicines accessible to those how need it'.
Rather than seeing each other as adversaries, collaboration, open dialogue, and problem-solving should be our guiding principles. Together, we can drive positive change in the healthcare landscape.
I came back from the conference with new knowledge, ideas, and loads of notes. Now, it's time to think about how I can apply these insights to benefit my work going forward.

Salient Advisory does excellent work supporting the growth of the healthtech ecosystem in Africa. PharmaSecure is proud to be featured once again this year as one of the top 31 healthtech innovators out of a pool of 364 compiled and researched by Salient. Counterfeiting and diversion are major challenges in drug supply chains around the world, and Africa is no exception. A UN report recently found that 500,000 people lose their lives in Sub-Saharan Africa each year because of falsified or substandard medicines. There can be no higher priority than fighting this deadly problem, and we're proud to be doing our part. Thanks for keeping us motivated, Salient Advisory!

Join us at the forefront of shaping the future of global trade at the inaugural Global Supply Chain Forum (GSCF) 2024, hosted by the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with the Government of Barbados.
The global supply chain is a key element in ensuring equal access to medicines.
That's why Axmed's Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer Felix Ohnmacht, Ph.D. is participating in the panel 'Empowering Small Island States in the Caribbean: Leveraging Pooled Procurement and Innovative Technologies for Supply Chain Resilience' on May 22.
"The hyper-fragmentation of supply chains and healthcare ecosystems in emerging markets has created significant barriers that hinder healthcare providers and patients in those countries from achieving economies of scale, scale which would otherwise enable access to quality, affordable, and innovative medicines," says Felix. "Technology offers a powerful tool to reduce these barriers, unlocking significant economic and accessibility opportunities for both healthcare providers and manufacturers of high-quality medicines."

Yesterday I took the opportunity provided by vips Vereinigung Pharmafirmen in der Schweiz to take part in the first ever “politics meets industry “ event. It was a great opportunity to listen to and connect with policymakers to discuss the future of healthcare in Switzerland.
Connecting with policymakers and regulators is important to make sure we can continue to provide innovation and quality healthcare to affordable prices in Switzerland.

Just wrapped up an insightful session on “EU Combination Products – Opportunities and Challenges” at #DIAeurope2024.
Key takeaways:
1️⃣ Enhanced Health Authority Role: There’s a call for stronger dialogue among stakeholders, with health authorities playing a proactive role in supporting and coordinating efforts.
2️⃣ Addressing Legal Limitations: Identifying legal barriers hindering innovation in combination products and a commitment from industry to engage with legislators for necessary changes.
3️⃣ Collaborative Efforts: Emphasizing the importance of ongoing engagement to tackle regulatory challenges.
Excited to see collaboration driving innovation in this space! 🚀
Thanks to Björn Eriksson, Alberto Gañan Jimenez, Esteban Herrero-Martinez, Jonathan Sutch for great contributions 🙏

As half the global population prepares to vote for new leaders, acceptance of innovation is critical for future prosperity. While scientists are essential for innovation, concerns persist about politics influencing science, potentially contributing to declining trust in institutions.
And so, whilst innovation holds the promise of prosperity, it also risks exacerbating trust issues, leading to societal instability and political polarization.
Edelman's 2024 Trust and Health Special Report #TrustBarometer explores citizens’ and patients’ views on institutions, trusted sources, and openness to innovations like advanced therapies and new technology platforms. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/enM5KyNU
I'm looking forward to Edelman's upcoming event, where I'll participate in a discussion on these issues within the broader global innovation ecosystem, exploring how to restore and leverage trust in medical expertise and healthcare innovation.

In the intricate web of healthcare supply chains, each link plays a critical role.
As one of the world’s largest and most diversified healthcare companies, with over 50 internal and external manufacturing sites located across Europe, our global, diversified, and open supply chains are essential for ensuring the provision of medicines to patients worldwide.
In an increasingly unpredictable environment, collaboration between public and private sectors to bolster resilience in global supply chains and economies is critical. To navigate these turbulent times, maintaining open trade and product flows is essential, and adaptable frameworks are key to achieving this.
This sentiment was at the heart of the discussions during the launch meeting of the EU’s Critical Medical Alliance (CMA) with EU Health Ministers yesterday in Brussels. It was an honor to be part of this important and timely conversation hosted by the Belgian Vice Premier and Health Minister, Frank Vandenbroucke, and EU Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides.
Bringing together all relevant stakeholders, including the pharmaceutical industry in collaboration with the EU and the Member States, the CMA offers a promising avenue for a unified EU-level approach to tackle shortages and supply chain vulnerabilities, with a consensus that collective effort and shared responsibility are crucial for ensuring continuous vital medicine supply. We need to ensure that any additional obligations are aligned appropriately and are risk-proportionate to ensure Europe remains competitive on the global stage.
With our extensive expertise in managing global supply chains at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, we're well placed to contribute to crafting strategies that enhance supply chain resilience, work together on co-created policy solutions and ultimately ensure the guaranteed timely access to medicine for patients.
You can learn more about our collective efforts in this short video with my colleagues Anna Rafferty Costello and Geert De Meulder.
