Have you ever wondered why the CCAC has released more guidelines documents over the past few years? All of the guidelines being released are updates of our existing guidelines. It is all part of our commitment to provide certified institutions with the updated information, evidence, and global best practices they need to ensure a high level of animal care and ethical practices are in place. While previous versions were part of two volumes in a large book, guidelines are now published individually to give us the ability to update them more easily. The number of changes to the guidelines will eventually decrease as we enter a regular maintenance model. https://lnkd.in/e4N8xxc6

Got an independent review coming up? Attend my talk at #ANZLAA24 to learn what to expect and discover how to get the most out of the review process. And please come and find me during the conference - I’d love to chat about how my expertise can support your goals and help advance our shared mission of excellence in animal care and use for scientific purposes. Looking forward to seeing you there! 🙌 #Animalcareanduse #ScientificExcellence #ConferenceSpeaker #researchethics #researchcompliance
I'm speaking at #ANZLAA24! My talk is titled "Everything you need to know about independent external review", and it's relevant for both Australian and New Zealand audiences. Every animal care and use program in Australia and New Zealand is required to undertake regular independent review. When done well, reviews are a positive and extremely valuable exercise. However, our clients often report that they don’t know how to get started or what to expect and many of our Australian clients even have trouble identifying suitable reviewers. In this talk, I’ll explain how to organise and prepare for a review, review objectives, what to expect from the review process, timelines, what deliverables to expect, and pricing considerations. I’ll touch on the importance of communication, opportunities for openness and incorporating areas of interest into the review to benefit from your reviewers’ expertise. Importantly, I’ll also share the most common types of noncompliance we identify and provide tips on how to avoid these in your own program. Finally, I’ll share strategies to leverage review findings into a strategic plan so that your organisation can improve practice across all aspects of its animal care and use program in a way that’s realistic for where you’re at.
