Cancer patients in #Scotland are being diagnosed more speedily - and treated sooner - thanks to a ground-breaking project using artificial intelligence (AI). The DailyMail.com reports on NHS Grampian's results on using the Annalise.ai technology Timely detection of cancer is paramount, as evidenced by the stark contrast in five-year survival rates between stage 1 lung cancer, where curative treatment yields a 65% survival rate, and stage 4, where survival plummets to a mere 5%. Dr Andrew Keen, Clinical Director of Innovation at NHS Grampian, says - ▶ Early results show we have reduced the time between people getting chest X-rays and being treated for lung cancer by 9 days on average. ▶ We have also reduced the variation in the delay to treatment substantially. ▶Previously, we managed to get 90% of people with lung cancer treated in 99 days. Now, that is down to 76 days. ▶Our evidence so far is that the Al tool is helping us identify earlier-stage cancers that are treatable. The increase is about 11%. If our early results hold true, then that could mean 600 more people per year in Scotland diagnosed with treatable lung cancer. Lung cancer detection is ONE out of hundreds of use cases made possible by the Annalise.ai technology. Imagine what would be possible if this kind of solution is generally adopted worldwide.
