CW: Descriptions of violence against unhoused people Dehumanizing rhetoric leads to dehumanizing actions. Since the start of the year, there has been an alarming uptick in violent attacks targeting unhoused people in our region. Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness Executive Director Alison Eisinger summarized it well, in a The Seattle Times article today: “The rhetoric around how public officials and others speak about people who do not have homes has real consequences for people’s lives... When our policies treat people, human beings, our neighbors as garbage or worse... the results are tragic and sometimes fatal.” Hold onto empathy and compassion while you discuss homelessness. People experiencing homelessness are human beings, worthy and deserving of dignity and respect. Read the full article from Seattle Times: https://lnkd.in/gVPPsrn3

I am deeply saddened and outraged by the recent attack on the Welcome Centre, a critical facility that provides essential services and support to our homeless community. This act of violence disrupts the vital work being done to help those in need and raises serious concerns about the safety of our most vulnerable citizens. The Welcome Centre serves is a lifeline for many individuals, offering shelter, food, and social services. An attack on this facility is an attack on the principles of compassion, dignity, and community support. It is imperative that we take immediate action to address this situation. I call on local authorities to: 1. Conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible. 2. Implement enhanced security measures to protect the staff and service users of the Welcome Centre and similar facilities. To the dedicated staff of the Welcome Centre: your unwavering commitment to serving our homeless population is deeply appreciated. Know that the community stands with you in solidarity during this challenging time. Let us unite to ensure that the Welcome Centre can continue its essential work without fear of further incidents. By working together, we can restore a sense of safety and support for everyone involved. #HomelessSupport #CommunitySafety #EndViolence #SupportTheWelcomeCentre #Homelessness

California Democratic Delegate to Senator Becker San Mateo County CJS Reform Advocate, Victim Advocate, Community Activist, Homeless Advocate, Certified Drug Substance Counselor.
Good morning Family!🙏 Where are we heading as a community. Our leadership is calling homelessness, illegal camping?? These are the ideas that our experienced politicians come up with, converting a tragedy into a crime. We have 38 homeless children attending Kennedy Middle School in Redwood City, right now! Many live in vehicles. Are we now criminalizing children for being homeless?? Where do they go, into our broken Foster System?? Experienced politics isn’t always the best for our community. Criminalizing a humanitarian problem is not the answer to growing problem. Unless we seek more prison pipelines✊🇺🇸🙏! This article does not reflect who we are as a community in District 4. Let’s show up and condemn this Resolution✊🇺🇸 ! We need Change, and it shouldn’t come with the same politics that has us now criminalizing our struggling community members.✊🇺🇸!

🚨 Only a few days left! Join us in taking action to rally in Washington, D.C., next week as #SCOTUS prepares to hear #JohnsonVGrantsPass. 🔹 The question before the court is: can cities that fail to meet everybody’s basic needs of housing or shelter punish people with no choice but to sleep outside by using things like blankets or pillows? 🔹 The outcome will determine whether the United States will be a country that fines or arrests people for experiencing homelessness or a country that invests in solutions that ensure everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable home. 🔹 There are alternatives to arresting people that communities can act on now. 🗓️ Monday, April 22 ⏰ 10 AM — 12 PM 📍 U.S. SUPREME COURT // 1 FIRST STREET, D.C. 🔗 Learn more: https://bit.ly/3xmp8dv

🚨Consultation closing tomorrow!🚨 We want to know how safe you feel in the district and what your priority concerns are regarding crime and disorder in our annual community safety survey, whether it’s anti-social behaviour, vehicle crime or violent crime? While North Herts is a relatively safe place to live and is one of the lowest crime areas in Hertfordshire, local organisations work hard to keep it that way. Please complete our short survey to let us know what you think about community safety in North Herts and what our priorities should be. Your feedback helps us address local issues and helps communities feel safer. Questions in the survey include what your top three community safety concerns are, and whether you think the perception and/or fear of crime is disproportionate to actual crime levels.
