🚀 Exciting News! Our article, "Immersive Virtual Colonography Viewer for Colon Growths Diagnosis: Design and Think-Aloud Study," has just been published in Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (Impact Factor: 2.5)! 🔗 You can read the open access paper here: https://lnkd.in/dQT3yazp This work, led by our former MSc student João Serras, is part of his thesis and represents a significant step forward in medical imaging and diagnostics. Alongside with our colleagues Andrew Duchowski, Isabel Nobre, Anderson Maciel, Joaquim Jorge, and myself, we have developed a novel VR-based tool aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of colon growth diagnosis. Our innovative design integrates VR and eye-tracking components to provide a more immersive and faster colonoscopy experience. The tool includes unique features like eye-tracking to highlight unseen areas, a flexible navigation approach, and a distinct interface for blending scan results with a reconstructed colon surface. The formative evaluation involved think-aloud sessions with radiology experts and students, focusing on usability aspects like colon coverage, diagnostic accuracy, and completion time. Another excellent paper at #JMXR! Journal of Medical Extended Reality This paper focuses on a use case for #virtualreality in #healthcare around #surgical collaboration in orthopedic trauma I really love #VR use cases like this. I especially like the rigor and empirical testing associated with this study. Qualitative analysis highlighted the strength of VR to interrogate 3D anatomy and injury patterns collaboratively and quickly. The NASA-Task Load Index domain “task performance” was rated consistently high, indicating the ability to use presented data to advance patient management.
