This work, led by our former MSc student João Serras, is part of his thesis and represents a significant step forward in medical imaging and diagnostics. Alongside with our colleagues Andrew Duchowski, Isabel Nobre, Anderson Maciel, Joaquim Jorge, and myself, we have developed a novel VR-based tool aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of colon growth diagnosis.
Our innovative design integrates VR and eye-tracking components to provide a more immersive and faster colonoscopy experience.
The tool includes unique features like eye-tracking to highlight unseen areas, a flexible navigation approach, and a distinct interface for blending scan results with a reconstructed colon surface.
The formative evaluation involved think-aloud sessions with radiology experts and students, focusing on usability aspects like colon coverage, diagnostic accuracy, and completion time. Although our study does not quantify performance, the insights gathered are invaluable for further research and development in this vital field.
