Founder & Chief Practice Officer @ Drake & Co. Medical Practice Consulting | Author | Runner | Triathlete| I help launch private medical practices & help them stay independent
The Wall Street Journal article covers the main "pain points" in the healthcare system. I like that some hospitals are being proactive to try to mitigate some wait times and patient/provider communication, but this doesn't address the Medicare payment cuts and hoops many private practices and specialists have to go through with insurance to get paid. I hear from some physicians with hospital systems, they are like concierge docs but aren't paid like them. Meaning, they respond to patients and work after clinic hours but are not compensated for the additional work. #conciergemedicine #privatepractice
The Wall Street Journal is making quite a case for Direct Primary Care here with this article. Laura Landro, I'd be happy to chat about how DPC addresses the doctor-patient relationship, access, and cost as a follow up to this piece. #DPC #DirectPrimaryCare https://lnkd.in/gjT5wyGs

Prior Authorization often stands as a roadblock between patients and timely care, delaying evidence-based treatment and draining practices' resources. Studies show an average of 16 hours of physician and staff time each week is spent on prior authorization, with approval granted ~90% of the time. The AMA highlighted one patient's plight, Chris, who faced delays getting diabetes medication due to repeated challenges with prior authorization. Several groups across the country, including the Massachusetts Medical Society, are working on prior authorization reform to create a more streamlined, patient-first approach. One idea is 'gold carding,' where clinicians with a high rate of approval bypass subsequent authorization requests, thereby expediting treatment. Your voice matters. Share your stories to drive home the need for change. We need to advocate for policies that support access to high-quality care. #healthcare #healthcarereform #healthinsurance

With 60% of adults in the U.S. facing chronic illnesses and a predicted shortfall of up to 48,000 primary care physicians by 2034, the pressure on healthcare delivery intensifies. The National Library of Medicine deems the standard patient panel size of 2500 as unmanageable, demanding a physician's day extend beyond physical limits. Read more from the author, Caroline Harrington, who asserts that it's "equally important to focus on other aspects of care—like the factors affecting panel sizes—to ensure that providers are providing the most cost effective and adequate care." https://hubs.ly/Q02rVQk60 #HealthcareCrisis #CareManagement #PrimaryCare
