Most questions related to #thalassemia might have answers in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. #TPAG writes about it in this article in #theweek. Thalassaemia International FederationThalassemics India
It is hard to talk about #thalassemia in a dispassionate way, but that's where legal training helps! It allows me to rise above the emotions attached to the condition and look for solutions to address key challenges related to #bloodsafety #costofcare #ironchelation etc. The Rights for Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPWD Act) may provide most solutions in the legal and policy space. My article in theweek.in attempts to explore how to do this while giving a sneak peak into the unseen battle! HUGE news from Canada. National Pharmacare (C-64) has received Royal Assent and is now law. B.C. has become the first province to opt in with the federal government and launch its program - hopefully delivering medication by next April. In its first phase, contraception and diabetes medication will be provided in a single-payer, first-dollar access basis. This means medication will be no cost at point-of-care. Importantly, this *should* also include diabetes supplies and devices via a separate fund, to cover things like closed-loop insulin pumps and CGMs. Thousands of Canadians with type 1 diabetes without employer-provided extended health benefits pay thousands of dollars annually just to stay alive. This is a massive win, will certainly improve lives, and creates a model for other nations to follow suit. Nobody should make the impossible decision on whether to pay rent or for medication.
Canada now has universal pharmacare — what this means for Canadians' access to medication | Canada

This is particularly important in social and work contexts, where feeling part of a cohesive group can reduce the sense of isolation and improve the quality of life. #BeLeukemiaAware #WLD24 #WorldLeukemiaDay #caregivers #patients #friends #family #yourenotalone #WorldLeukemiaDay #Leukemia #PatientAdvocacy #Alan #BeAware #LoveandCare #August Acute Leukemia Advocates Network CLL Advocates Network CML Advocates Network
