Today is World Lupus Day. Lupus is a complex and often unpredictable autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs and systems in the body. The symptoms and severity of lupus can vary widely from patient to patient, and there is currently no cure for the disease. CITE has partnered with a national faculty of Lupus experts to develop educational resources for clinicians managing Lupus. Please join California Society of Pathologists for a webinar on June 13th 2024 12pm PST, discussing idiopathic multicentric #Castleman disease (iMCD), presented by Imran Siddiqi, MD, PhD, of the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. iMCD is a rare, cytokine-driven disease characterized by lymphadenopathy, often misdiagnosed with autoimmune, malignant, and infectious disorders due to overlapping symptoms. Pathologists are critical in the diagnostic evaluation of iMCD, as the published criteria can only be met with #histopathological grading and confirmation of #laboratory values.

🔥 Exciting news for the Sjogren's community! The British Society for Rheumatology has published fantastic management guidelines for Sjogren's syndrome. These guidelines provide much-needed major broad management strategies to help non-Sjogren experts to better care for Sjogren's disease patients. Before criticizing these guidelines, it's important to note that there will always be numerous opinions on what should and should not have been included. However, these guidelines are a great start and a step in the right direction. I particularly appreciate the recommendation of hydroxychloroquine for hypergammaglobulinemia patients, as there is some evidence (Argentine study) that it may be associated with fewer extra-glandular manifestations. The guidelines also outline what labs should be followed in patients and much more! I have some other favorites as well (and some missing, but at least this is a great start!) Every May, the cystic fibrosis community comes together for CF Awareness Month. The theme of this year’s CF Awareness Month is, “Unity in Community.” During CF Awareness Month, the community comes together to help others learn about the disease, share personal stories, and unite behind our mission: finding a cure for all people with CF. According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis, a rare genetic disease. Approximately 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis are diagnosed each year. CF can affect people of every racial and ethnic group. Today, because of improved medical treatments and care, more than half of people with cystic fibrosis are 18 and older. Vist www.cff.org to learn more. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease and the top cause of EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) in infants and children. Approximately 66% of CF patients develop EPI shortly after birth and this number jumps to 85% by one year of age. People with EPI lack the digestive enzymes needed to properly digest food. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a serious and complex autoimmune condition that is challenging to diagnose and treat.
