Thank you NHS. I see a lot of comments on this post regarding staff experiencing racism within NHS. Whilst I do not disagree with this completely, my personal experience has been a very good one. I joined the UHB NHS trust 8 years ago as a band 1 domestic staff and now I am working as a band 5 research coordinator. I went through 3 different job roles to get to my current post and every single of these jobs were recommended to me by caucasian colleagues. Yes,racism exists but we have to appreciate the efforts that are put in to deal with it.
The NHS has racism in its own individual trusts let alone a full collective effort
We cannot echo this message enough! The NHS could not do all its amazing work without its staff made up of people from multiple nations 👏
It's about what next: racism within the NHS, NMC-the governing body of nurses and openly in the community now while going to work. I wonder how to explain racism to my preschool daughter when she hears her parents' conversation. But I know these terrorising protesters are a minority in numbers who should be punished and re-educate them.
I am a British Muslim and a mum and I no longer feel safe in my own city anymore. I go to work in my local hospital every day with fear of someone attacking me from behind, just because im wearing an innocent headscarf.. Im going to work instead of hiding at home, just to serve my community, through booking appointments for desperate patients who are waiting for a follow up review or a date for surgery.. sending out clinical correspondence.. helping to expedite an appointment for an urgent case, or interpreting for patient who can’t speak English.. I had to cancel my kids holiday due to fear of a random attack fuelled by hate.. Why do I and all muslim ladies and people from color backgrounds had to experience this fear in the country we spent almost all our life in with love? What country other than this country do they want us to go to? Why attacking ladies, mosques, cars and shops?? This is not fair. But I will keep going to work and continue to be a role model for my children and i will hope for better tomorrow and i have faith in the NHS and government who will do their best to stop this horrible incidents, and hope that God the Almighty will guide them to love and peace..

1moWhilst I fully support this, let’s not shy away from the fact that many NHS staff’s lived experience of working in the NHS is that they have faced racism within their workplace. This message also needs to include that any such discrimination is not tolerated within the NHS not just through Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policies but everyday practice especially from Senior leaders. We are stronger and better working together for our patients, service users and community, feeling valued and part of this amazing organisation. Creating an inclusive work environment and valuing diversity is everyone’s responsibility.
